"you know it's bad to take liquor with those pills."
"they work faster."
"you've got to climb Mt. Everest to reach the valley of the dolls!"

a quick upload tonight. i was late coming home as i went shopping for winter boots. i'm doing an easy one.
valley of the dolls, the film and the book, was one of the entertainment sensation in the sixties. the book was written by jacqueline susann. the term "dolls" in the book was a slang for pills and also "represents the women in the novel and their mishandling by the patriarchal world in which they are "played" by and dealt with as mere toys. The term also represents the women's reliance on stimulants, depressants, and sleeping pills, and how substance abuse is reminiscent of children clinging to toy dolls for comfort." (wikipedia.org)
thank you, kind folks, for your visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated. thanks a million, too, for the very generous favs you bestowed on last night's glamour self-portrait; you folks are awesome!
I just threw some old pills out today - should I have kept them? Only 3 years old! This is a much better quality photo than the one you did in 2013! I never knew this term doll meant that!
Wow, I never knew what 'dolls' meant in that sense. I read the book a long, long time ago but did not have enough life experience to fully understand it!
I hadn't read the book, or seen the movie, now I'm intrigued. But... I stopped reading since I've been on 365. When I first saw the image, I thought 35mm film canisters, then saw full image, pill containers, to depict film canisters? Then I read the description. Great comp my friend
"Valley of the Dolls" was a *guilty pleasure* to read back in those days...wildly risque and a bit shocking for the era! Your rendition is wonderful! (And as I saw this, I thought of you gathering everything back up in the bedroom to put away after your glamour shot!) Loved the commentary...as always!
@amandal - no, they were all like combat jane boots. i don't know why anyone would wear them. the other choise is way the opposite. stilleto heeled winter boots, are they kidding me! i'll just pray it won't snow until march. :-) thank you, kiddo.
I never read the book, but I did see the movie (on tv). Actually I saw the original (with Patty Duke as Neely) and the remake (of which I cannot remember one single actress that was on it!). It was almost a depressing movie until the end... but I won't spoil it for those who have not seen it or read it. A great commentary on our culture in a way. And things haven't changed much as far as dependence on pills- the reasons have changed though. Good shot.
