all seats taken

these are the picnic benches outside the st. lawrence market. in good weather and season, these are occupied by shoppers and employees from nearby buildings and offices during lunch time. in weather like we were having these days, obviously they're not. you can see the amount of snow that has accumulated around here, and most of it would have been cleared so what you see here is the new accumulation.

i had to adjust the contrast as everything is overblown and the buildings are just dark. the sun was bright at the time this was taken, the sky a beautiful blue, the temperature a nasty minus 13 with the winds blowing. i went inside the market and had a small lunch and when i came back it was all grey and more windy. i couldn't take photos anymore because i was holding a large shopping bag and my drink.

That's a lot of snow. Despite the sunshine it conveys the impression of being very chilly!

Did you win an award or comp with a similar styled photo? Looks very cold

@claireuk - great memory, claire. in fact it was chosen as finalist in the very first EOTB challenge - eye of the beholder - in january 2013. didn't win but the fact that you remembered, it's like winning for me. :-)

@summerfield No! Not that long ago? I remember it because I liked it so much. I think it would make a great print.

The snow, the sharp light, the shadows all point to how brutally cold this must really be! Good for you for braving that whether to get this magnificent shot! I like the leading lines of the snow-covered tables!

@barneyone - the weather in canada is like a box of chocolates. you never know what you will get, except if you look at the little leaflet that comes with it. :-) there was one year we had the victoria day weekend which is the last monday of may and it was just freezing cold, rainy and damp. so be sure to bring your good weather. no rain, just good weather.

@grammyn - your spell check is like a box of chocolates. :-D

Literally LOL! @summerfield
February 18th, 2015
Nope, snow like that really puts a damper on an out-door lunch hour!

great repetitions of the tables and buildings.

Oh, Vikki, and I don't know how you get through this winter where you are! Four days in NYC just about did me in, and it was not even below freezing! It took forever to put all the layers on in the morning, and then it was so uncomfortable everytime we went inside. Taking pictures with or without gloves was not an easy task....I could go on and on! So damn cold!

@panthora - did you go to niagara falls? i was hoping you would and you'd tell me so i can go meet up. but you wouldn't have liked it there, although when we were there on wednesday, it wasn't so bad. only -13 celcius and no wind. thank you, osia.
