my get pushed challenger this week, @sitiodown tari, challenged me to a photo of either a 'breathing' animal, or a silhouette. i actually told her the animal part is quite difficult for me because i am deathly afraid of dogs and i'm allergic to cats. that's why she changed her challenge to a silhouette.
although i have fulfilled the challenge (a silhouette), i can't help but post this. we went around the lake this morning after our usual breakfast and we saw this dog whose hind legs were stretched behind her and instead she has a pair of red dog wheels. even the other dog you see in the foreground is quite tame, it won't walk any further than the disabled one and the lady tending them.
walking back to the car, i lagged behind partner and they caught up with me. i asked the lady what happened to the dog and she said that the dog has the equivalent of ALS in humans. the disease is catching up fast with the dog's body. i was almost in tears as i watched the dog but she's a pretty pleasant one, just minding her own business. she did sniff me once in the ankle but i was okay. it is sad for the owner to know that pretty soon she would be gone from them, but the lady said they try to enjoy her as much as they can as she is indeed a very pleasant pet to have.
i don't know if you can make her out in this photo but i do think she should have a place in my album.
Oh, I can feel your "concerned fear" as our own Ashton has been working to overcome the same around dogs. The rule to thumb is to 1>ask the owner if you might pet their dog and 2> extend your hand to let the dog smell it. You can trust me almost 100% the dog will not lunge at you (especially if on a leash). My challenge to you is to learn to enjoy them for the lovely, human-loving animals they are!
It's wonderful you could photograph this pet that is atypical from others shared here and her little Corgi companion. Sweet images of both.
This reminds me of Taffy's beloved dog who also had wheels for a while. It might not be the best picture ever, but the story with it tugs at your heartstrings. Good job on overcoming the hesitation and fear and getting not only the picture but the story too.
Well done you for getting a picture of two dogs! It's quite a sad story but it does sound as though the humans are giving the little dog every possible chance

Sorry it was such a sad story, though . . .
