state of the "union" by summerfield

state of the "union"

front street, where toronto's union station is, has been under construction for so long as torontonians could remember. the subway system has been undergoing renovation, updating, maintenance, improvement, all for the so-called convenience of the city folks. course not! it's all because the pan-am games are happening here in the summer and infrastructure are all aging and so they had to be face lifted for the visitors. all these were supposed to have been finished last march but they are now cramming because it's may and there's no end in sight for these construction, updates, maintenance.

well, maybe it is because there are more 'supervisors' than workers. three supers for one minion? god forbid if any one of those three would go on his knees to help out. the higher union bosses would not hear of it. that's not in the job description!

when i went to school 20 years ago to find a new career, the lady at the office of the dean had an envelope for the main building which was across the street. since she was going for her smoke break, she decided to cross the street and deliver it herself. she got flak from the union steward because delivering the forking envelope was not her job and what if she got hurt doing work she wasn't supposed to do? she argued that it was a small envelope that had to be delivered right away, she very carefully crossed the street, looked both ways to see it was safe, and heaven knows when the union person who was supposed to do the delivery was going to appear to do the job. the union threatened to fire her, to which she replied, "go ahead, make my day. and by the way, i have a legal person here listening to this conversation and another from the newspaper. so f***ing go ahead and fire me."

nah, they wouldn't fire her, that would not have looked good!

i had been sick since thursday morning. projectile vomiting and such until thursday evening. friday morning there was nothing to expel from my body so i had been sleeping but making sure every time i woke up that i drank a lot of water. am able to stay vertical for longer now. but crackers and water, wow! been trying to lose weight for so long and suddenly i am light as a feather. i don't like being sick, though. staying away from chinese food, that's for sure!

no need to comment, but if you do, thank you; it is much appreciated.
Enjoyed reading the commentary! Hope you are feeling better by now.

That sounds like bad food poisoning if it was not a bug you caught! Recently a lady politely "pm'd" a restaurant manager to say her son was sick all night after his hamburger and the manager was so wild, he wrote a scathing letter and published it on Social Media in public, with lots of 'f' words! It has spiked a NZ wide reaction and the Manager won't say he's sorry in spite of many people refusing to go to his restaurant again!

Isn't this often the case! Hopefully they won't be cutting corners to get the job completed. I hope that you are feeling better and get your strength back soon.
