st. raphael's church was once the largest parish of the roman catholic church in old canada. it is situated in south glengarry, ontario, a town east of cornwall. it was built in 1821 and was gutted by a fire in 1970. its roofs, the distinguishable tower built in 1830, as well as its interior decorations were all destroyed in that fire and only its outer walls were spared.
this bell was massive! half of its thick body was burned in that fire and looking at it close up, it is incredibly unimaginable how hot fire could be to have melted this bell.
this was from the third day of our incredible but tiring road trip.
Hi partner! Wow!! I looked through your list of challenges. Daunting!!! I also tend to check in to see what you and Bill Fenske are up to, including your alphabet. It seems you are always up for a challenge! Last month Richard @vignouse set himself a challenge to take three pictures of the same area but stepping back 10 meters for each shot. It was quite interesting how in moving himself he got very different pictures from the same place. I've had a look through your album and I saw that, though you don't do fancy photoshopping type edits, you have done a triptych. How about this week you follow Richard's challenge of moving 10 meters and composing a new shot of an area and get three shots which you can then create a triptych with. Is that alright? If not, let me know and I'll set another challenge.
@summerfield Good luck with your challenge - my pictures were actually 5 metres apart, you'll need to adjust that depending on the focal length you're using. I was using an 8mm rectilinear fisheye so even a small change in PoV resulted in a very different image... I suggest that you use the shortest focal length you have... changing the height of the camera makes a big difference with w/a lenses as well. I look forward to seeing the results.
That is a massive bell....and, from this perspective I thought maybe it had fallen on that spot and half of it was crushed!! That must have been some fire to melt that bell!! Wonderful capture!
@summerfield I'm so glad Richard replied! I didn't convert the meters and didn't realize how far that was. Feel free to shorten that distance to whatever works for you!
