this morning, i tried to do some writing what with so many ideas in my head but none would coalesce into something meaningful. too many distractions in the home (mainly the butter pecan ice cream in the freezer :-P). so i gathered my camera along with my little paper notebook and pens and took off for niagara falls. the train ride then the long bus ride certainly put me in the mood.
i arrived just past the noon hour at the height of the day's temperature. but at least it was cooler by a few degrees by the falls; it was about 24 degrees around the peninsula. i was sweating like a cow (do cows perspire?) and after walking the trail from the lookout to the american falls to the back of the canadian horseshoe falls, i was drenched and stopped under a canopy of branches of an ancient tree. i knew i always leave a face towel in my camera bag so i fished it out and to my surprise i also found my tiny crystal ball.
the stretch of pavement along the back of the falls to the filtration plant was practically devoid of people and so i thought i'd use the crystal ball. the top of the concrete fence is made of uneven bricks and the most flat portion was almost near the edge and slanted. i was careful to not bump against it with the lens, it being so small, and with the lens hood attached to the lens i really couldn't gauge how close i was to the tiny ball. after a few shots, i scooped the ball and its base and was surprised to find about a dozen people lined up behind me. "am i in your way, folks?" i asked to which they all said "no" and realized they were watching me take a picture of the falls through the little crystal ball.
So I have missed reading your wordy posts and love this description here. Your take on the falls works well. And, I think I too would be distracted by said ice-cream - especially in the midst of this heat wave here.
Beautiful! I nearly didn't get passed the 24 degrees bit as that's ere I would love to be. We are sitting at around 12 or 13 degrees and I do not do cold very well.
