a cabbage leaf to the rescue by summerfield

a cabbage leaf to the rescue

i had margherita pizza for supper; my intention was to photograph it when it was fresh from the oven, and i was sure it would photograph rather well in black and white with all the different textures -- cheese, sauce, pesto, cherry tomato halves. thing is, i forgot. when i remembered, pizza had been reduced to nothing.

now, i've had this drumhead cabbage for a week in my fridge but have not had the chance to do any cooking. then remembering that today i've viewed quite a number of cabbage photos, i thought this time would be the best time to photograph my drumhead. and just to make it a little bit different, i pulled out my light pad and just tore off a leaf instead of the whole thing. so there you have it.

if you can believe it, this is the negative version. i just thought it looked more like the thing.
Very cool effect! But now my desire for cabbage is severely reduced!

Such great detail. I would have never thought about using a cabbage leaf as a photo prop. Very creative.

Nicely done, the negative really highlights the detail in the veins :)

Awesome!

The veins in this leaf go in a lot of squiggly directions. Neat shot.

Well, this is really Edward-Weston-esque. Amazing detail and I would never have guessed it is negative!

Hard to decide which one I like better. I think this one shows up better

I like your reasoning, and this makes a good photo Vikki.

It does make the veins attract all my attention so I could imagine this leaf bleeding. I think it’s realistic looking but just enough off to enter that “uncanny valley”
