my tree of life by summerfield

my tree of life

during lent and through easter, my church had a theme of "trees - connecting heaven with earth". the sanctuary was adorned with photos and artworks depicting trees. i was going to contribute one of my tree photos but i kept forgetting to look through my archives. (sometimes my ability for missing opportunities is rather amazing.) i attended a two-day sort of like workshop where we discussed our favourite trees (mine were ylang-ylang tree and mango tree), and imagining what the tree of life look like at the end in Revelation, among others.

during the second session, we did some art wherein we were encouraged to write a poem or draw, paint a tree or trees. we all opted to make art. we were like small children (in bigger shriveled bodies) excited to make their first drawings. my first was chalk on canvass which looked like a first grader's drawing. but i did a second one in crayons and acrylic paint on kraft paper which portrayed how i imagine the tree of life at the end in Revelation. that drawing looked more like a second grader's (tee-hee!) which the minister included in the display at the sanctuary. the left photo shows the wall of the sanctuary where my little art was displayed and the inset shows my little art.

as you can see, i imagined the tree of life at the end in Revelation as a tall tree, thick with leaves and the branches heavy with fruits some had fallen on the ground ready to be shared by all living things. i might even have drawn a nest with a couple of birds flying about.

i should stick to photography, shouldn't i?
One. You don’t need a clever tag for this. It is a beautiful tree of life and I don’t think you should stick to just photography. Two You are already accomplished in writing and photography and it’s time to add a new dimension to your skills. Three. I think this might be it.

I think it's a very evocative piece and conveys the intended meaning perfectly well. Given the atrocities in Sri Lanka, we could all use some more of the Love, Faith and Hope on those posters. I just don't get how anyone can justify killing people (or other violence) in the name of any of the major religions of the world.

I think trees are spiritual healers and now in this time of global warming may be the ones that save us all. This is strong.

You are indeed an accomplished artist! I think your eye for composition and your ability to blend tones and colours has transferred to your art work. - It is the same, just different media!
Well done!
And, I like your minister and how he encouraged everyone to consider the Tree of Life in Revelation. It brings that whole story to life!
