yes, the mighty toilet paper. somewhere, someone somehow determined that if there was going to be a pandemic, that they would need to stock on toilet paper. it is a conundrum. for one thing, symptoms of covid19 do not include diarrhea. maybe because some people use the toilet paper as an all-round paper product -- a stand-in for facial tissue, q-tips, paper towel, napkin -- aside, of course, from its normal use, we'll never know. but boy! its whirlwind shot to "stardom" was astronomical and unbelievably strange. when this pandemic is through, the paper companies will be rich (and i hope my pension company will have invested my money on those companies). but there's just one catch: if workers are to stay at home, who's working at the paper mills? and if there will be workers for the paper mills and factories, by the time the virus is gone, man would have divested the earth of the ever important trees. and that, my friend, could be the beginning of the real end of mankind.
tagging this also for the six-word story challenge. also: the lighting was a little bit challenging as i would imagine Ms. Traeger would've shot hers during the daytime, by the window in natural light. this is the closest i could get using my small rim light. as well, this is the best idea and the best shot for the 52-week challenge.
The photo is a great take off on the artist's work.
I've had two theories about the toilet paper scare. With more people at home all the time, perhaps folks felt the need to buy more paper to handle the use by all those people (who usually use the toilet paper at work/school/ etc.) for an increased amount of time. This one really doesn't account for the amount of toilet paper being purchased. The second one is really a joke - with so many people now having to eat their own cooking...
@randystreat - that's what i thought, too. but what baffles me is i still use the same amount of paper (i mean the squares) now that i am home (and supposed to be conserving) but i seem to replace the roll longer. whereas i would have to replace the roll every 4 days, i noticed that my roll now lasts 5 to 6 days. go figure!
Excellent response to the artist challenge! Hopefully it won't be like underwear where you turn it inside out, TP just doesn't seem to work that way....yikes!
@summerfield Now that is curious. I noticed for some reason I'm eating a bit less, but using the toilet just as much. (I guess I'm trying to keep my fluid intake up.)
Same thing's happened here too Vikki, I've seen videos of people actually fighting in the supermarket aisles!! Dunno what ever happened to manners and respect, there's plenty for everyone if people behaved properly.
you need a few favs for this one. Certainly for the image and for your creativity in thinking of it, and of course for your narrative which entertains as usual, but when I clicked the link and saw the original it really made me laugh. We have toilet rolls back in the shops now, the rare commodity has become flour. I can not get plain flour or bread flour (or yeast for that matter) for love nor money.
@helenhall - what do you think is that thing in the original image, i thought it was one of those funny mealy or soft watery cheeses. do you think that that is cheese or something?
@helenhall - here, toilet paper is still a rare commodity. i have flour that i don't know what to do with it. maybe i'll make an upside down pineapple cake so i have a post for one of these days. take care, helen.
@helenhall - wish we were in the same country, i could mail it to you. maybe next time i'm in the grocery store i would check the flour shelf just to see what our situation is. i don't bake normally and the cakes i bake i do them on the stove (i have a 7-ply pan). but the bread i have i put some in the freezer to save them, just in case a shortage happens.
