i saw this pair of gloves at a little accessories shop in the underground path (in toronto, the path is a labyrinth of passageways that connects the buildings and offices of the financial district) which in the past normal would've teemed with people, only this time there was hardly anyone in it. i felt sorry for the forlorn salesperson, with most businesses closed, i doubted she has got any sales at all. people are getting laid off or staying at home, making fashion accessories seem irrelevant. so i went in and browsed. i wanted the lady to have a sale and saw these gloves and so i bought them. because gloves are necessary for the coming winter, right? she was rather happy with the sale, she even told me that one can never have enough pairs of gloves.
today, i had to go to the office and deal with the mounting incoming mails in my in-tray. after sorting them out, i did some work on the computer and i was a bit overwhelmed by the two big monitors after making do with the small screen of a laptop for eight months. i felt sort of dizzy after about twenty minutes, i had to go and get some iced water. our floors have decals that indicate direction and you had to walk all the way around to get to your desk. after working for about two hours, i had enough and packed up to go home.
i must admit it felt nice this morning when i was getting ready, and putting in proper office clothes. it also felt weird, but my upbringing and training is that you've got to dress in proper office attire. some of our admin and facilities people are now on regular working schedule and they were quite happy to see me. i laughed at how two girls, stood up and almost rushed to me but checked themselves immediately so we just waved at each other. the only thing i didn't like was with the constant hand sanitizing and surface cleaning, my hands very quickly dried up and now they're chafed and cracked.
Heart-wrenching kindness for the glove purchase and mind boggling adjustment to what is no longer normal for work! Overall, a confused method of everyday life these days that you have navigated successfully in this crazy time!!!
Those are beautiful gloves. I’m sure you’re going to enjoy them this winter. Interesting to know that Toronto has underground passages. Downtown Minneapolis has the skyways up above. But the University of Minnesota has underground passageways. I hadn’t thought of them for a long time since we’ve been back in Kansas 19 years, and I hadn’t been regularly on the U of M campus for a lot longer than that.
What a nice gesture to support a local business. No doubt going back to the office is going to take a lot of getting used to. Slow and steady she goes!
You must have made that sales person's day! The gloves are pretty and you will enjoy them! And back to the office is an adjustment, but I believe it is a step in the right direction to get very slowly back to slightly better new normal..
What beautiful gloves and I bet you added the lovely pin. I can totally see how you felt exhausted after a day at the office. I think we all hold so much more stress inside us than we know.
A lovely look at those gloves. The pin adds a touch of elegance. I believe that you and I dress so differently. For a number of years, my outfit was scrubs, as I worked in a hospital. Prior to that, something comfortable and washable but not quite as casual as jeans (I worked with psychiatric patients). Now I don't really want to get dressed up and prefer to throw on a pair of jeans to go out rather than anything nicer. I think that when I am outlaw I become tired of thinking about wearing the mask, the direction to move, touching the wrong thing, cleaning my hands, staying away from others...
Love the stylish look to the gloves. Very generous of you to give the lady a sale! I’m sure it felt wonderful and strange at the same time to be in your office. All the safety precautions make it a less than desirable situation after all this time.
Love the composition and background makes a perfect product shot. That was so kind and thoughtful of you to share a smile with the poor sales lady. I can only imagine how awful it must be to not know if you will have a job tomorrow or not.
@mcsiegle - all 30 kilometres (18+ miles) of walkways, tunnels and shopping areas, 37 hectares of retail floor area, 1,200 stores and services, 20 parking garages. in the past, or until february and early march, it's bustling with people, especially when the weather is bad. now, it's a ghost town.
