there are some things, particularly books, that i can never part with. i have three shelves of books most of which i have hauled around from the old country to europe when i lived in bruxelles, then when i worked in muscat and then when i moved to toronto.
i was once told that i cannot take these to the grave. of course i can. i have made a provision in my will which ones are specifically to go with my body to the crematory (after i die, not while i'm alive, please!). the large volume of an old petit larousse (a french encyclopedia) and le petit prince are two of them. someone might have an issue with the little prince book because it is a first print, first edition copy. a long time ago, someone tried to buy it from me but i wouldn't and i couldn't part with it. no amount of money is at par with the sentimental value the book has for me.
the 'elements' books are newer editions, i had two copies of the older editions but i wisely or unwisely, depending on how you look at it, gave them away. those books, especially the "strunk and white the elements of style" had been a big help when i started to write a long time ago. these are books i keep re-reading every now and then.
I remember having The Elements of Style in my English class and I love The Little Prince. I love how you set up the still life with the glasses included.
@grammyn - in my attempt to change careers when i got carpal tunnel syndrome, i enrolled in a two-year hospitality management course, and outdid the lazy young classmates with a 3.9 GPA. though that didn't get me far in the hospitality industry but only proved i am great at math and rather sucked magnificently in economics.🤣 i'm humblebragging.🤣
