a shot fished out of the archives. in this race the jockey riding the 5 horse is trying to jockey his position to go ahead of the pack. he would not be successful, he would not even place, as the 8 horse won this particular race.

the ex was a horse racing aficionado back in the days. i learned from him how to look at a horse's history to gauge whether he had a chance to win a race. but most of the time when i won big, i just used my gut. there was one time a horse named 'no sex please' was in a race. i liked it just for the name but he said it was a so-so horse and didn't have a chance against the other horses and that i would just be wasting my money. when he went to place his bet, i went to a betting window farther down to bet on 'no sex please' and didn't tell him about it. of course the horse won and being a long shot paid well. my $20 won me $258 plus some change. he lost quite some money because his horse, the favourite, didn't even show. he was in a bad mood after that so i offered to pay for dinner which cost me only 60 bucks at the time. looking around at the people, i could understand why a lot of them get hooked with gambling -- you experience beginner's luck and it gives you confidence to keep on betting. sometimes you win, but most times you lose. i've seen it in casinos, too. as for me, i would bet my $20 and when it's gone, i just quit. i work hard for my money and i wouldn't want to spend it foolishly. i think that's why i didn't really mourn our breakup. i don't miss the groaning when he lost which was more of the time.

Fabulous shot! We have a track near us, and a few times a year we go, and gamble on the horses. I tend to pick a horse because of the name too. How awesome that you won!
