red is the colour of wrath - day one of the seven deadly sins challenge

"I hate cameras. They are so much more sure than I am about everything." - john steinbeck (incidentally, he wrote that famous novel "the grapes of wrath".)

challenging challenge, these 7 deadly sins. so i choose to represent them with colours.

i am not so keen on red roses as i am partial to blue flowers. also, red is associated with anger or wrath; that's why the idiom "seeing red" when describing someone's vexation or anger.

having said all that, i've always been told i look nice in red. hmmmm....interesting.

(colour reference derived from www.deadlysins.com/sins/index.htm)
Good presentation for wrath. Nice job.

very clever to use color to represent the sins, red is perfect for wrath! Very good image!

The color of wrath but a lovely photo of red. Agree on the blue over red though.

using colors is a very creative. i have always found it interesting how people use color, especially in writing. all that foreshadowing, and if you don't know the hints, you can be lost. i love red but supposedly can't see it - but i see something i say is red! this is very, very red to me!

Sometimes i'm pretty sure i took a completely diferent pic to what my camera presents,so i'm not to sure i aGree with mr Steinbeck completely

Nice composition. Great contrast!

great depiction -- as well as interpretation -- of wrath!! More so, to have the red so sharply contrasted against the greenery.....! Very nice!

Brilliant interpretation and well done on embarking on this rather challenging challenge! I look forward to what you're going to come up withe for the rest. I think the red is here is rich and romantic, but I suppose love and hate are two sides of the same coin.

Great interpretation and capture! You're into another challenge already!

The mean reds! (breakfast at tiffany's reference!)

lovely pic Ms Summer. I do like your positive interpretation indeed. I too love blue flowers, and red roses get a bad rap for me because of the whole commercial valentines love crap that is associated with them. (cynical? no.)
Steinbeck heh? Coulda taken a pic of some grapes! Dang, why did I not think of that? So easy and so clever....I disagree wholeheartedly though with his view on cameras; my camera just sees things differently to me and sometimes we argue about that. there are wins and there are losses....I digress...
I love to wear red, I feel positive and happy and strong - not if I'm in a negative frame of mind though, then I feel angry. Interesting maybe...
Great idea to do colours though, I like it!
July 5th, 2011
oh cool idea! I need to start my 7deadly next week.
July 5th, 2011
I really love red and yes, sometimes I'm angry but I think it is good to show your emotions. Love this picture, ms. Summerfield.
July 5th, 2011
Very beautiful shot Summer i love the idea of your chalenge!
July 5th, 2011
@bkbinthecity - thank you.
@meggageg - you're too young to know 'breakfast at tiffany's', kiddo! but then again that's why i like you so much, you can always relate to good old 'auntie summerfield' hahahaha.

@danig - the idea came to mind while i'm in the middle of shower which reinforces the belief that 'great ideas come from the most unexpected places' or something like that (you know i made that up, didn't you?:-)). i thought that was brilliant. i was ready to cut up a W and an H and post a picture of a rat in the middle to do a word play but i thought it was quite cheesy! the book "the grapes of wrath" kept pounding my cranials though but the quote was inevitable as it also referred to 'camera'.

but now what do i do for greed? i'm taking a shower now maybe the idea fairies are still there.
July 5th, 2011
@danig - forgot to say thank you, so thank you. and those green eyes would look gorgeous in red!
@altadc - thanks alta. looking forward to yours.
@ilseal - thank you, ms. ilse. i can't imagine you being angry.
@rynce - thank you, rynce. feel free to join in.
July 5th, 2011
well, you could've cut up a rat and taken a photo of the letter W and H...gruesome maybe? I've done greed - I thought about it all day and let my brain stretch to the far corners of word meanings....something quite simple came out of it, finally! lol

@summerfield Breakfast At Tiffany's is actually my favorite movie! I've always been a bit obsessed with Audrey.
July 5th, 2011
@steeler - I agree with you...but acknowledge that Steinbeck was writing at a very different time in history...and was a young man when photography was mostly used as a documentary tool (rather than as art....or fun)...and was seemingly used to capture (often horrible) certainties of war and poverty and famine...while he was a novelist looking at the subtle nuances and uncertainties of the Great Depression era in 20s/30s America.
July 7th, 2011
@summerfield - capturing the colour of wrath is so clever (and avoids the potential confrontations of wandering around the city trying to photograph angry people!)...red roses always make me feel slightly uneasy...as does wrath/confrontation so this works for me
July 7th, 2011
@patticake - there were several suggestions thrown at me, but i thought i should post something positive or at least pleasing to the eye to counter the "sinful" nature of the project. thank you, patti.
