"Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one"
(Lennon, from the album "Imagine", 1971)
"Imagine" is the opening track of the album "Imagine" which was released in 1971. In 2004, the magazine 'Rolling Stone' ranked the song at number 3 in its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". The album was ranked 76th greatest album in history.

there is no song by the beatles with a title that starts with the letter "Q" so today is a 'wild card' day. i chose this song also in conjunction with the september song challenge - for today's challenge, it's a song that you often hear on the radio. 'imagine' of course is a song that is almost an anthem for anti-war protesters, especially that john lennon and yoko ono were "trying to promote peace" at the time. i would imagine that this is john lennon's most popular solo song. 'imagine' isn't a favourite but i like it for its poetic quality, and didn't i already say i love john lennon's voice?
in one of the beatles' video tapes i have about their history, there is a video clip of their days in hamburg, germany where at the end of a song, they briefly sang 'que sera, sera', a doris day tune which was popular song in the mid-50's. they often sang gibberish at the end of a song especially when the patrons of the club where they were playing had all become drunk and noisy and didn't care to listen to them. doris day's name is mentioned in the beatle's song 'dig it' from their album "let it be" in 1969.
here's how the sky looked today. imagine if we have to look at this kind of sky every day, with the sun shining brightly, the sky so blue and the clouds are like cotton candy. but that would be in another realm. in our real world, all we can do is try. hope you're enjoying your weekend, my friends. peace!
(i cropped the photo because it was too large, then i put the framing and watermark from picnik, i didn't process or anything; is that still sooc?)
i adore this song and often wonder how other people do not. this is such a beautiful photo and i love what you had to say. i did not know that about the doris day tie in. hope the rest of your weekend if as beautiful as this. we are off to have brunch with my son, grandson, and his wife. promises to be the start to a great day.
fabulous song...and lovely image to go ith it. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked "Imagine" at number 3 in its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" :-)
@altadc - thank you, alta. but actually it is not a 'beatles' song. it was a solo by john lennon after the group broke up. but most people think it is.
i took this photo while the car was moving at 60 kmph (thank heavens i wasn't driving!). i was telling my partner to slow down but because he is a bit hard of hearing, he couldn't hear me. not bad eh?
