get pushed #21 - winter

i'm once again paired off with the very talented abhijit and this time he challenged me to show him what winter means to me.

winter is that cold and unforgiving season of the year. most people hate it, some love it so much. but winter to me can mean two things: the rush of the holiday season, and after that the quiet and slowness that drag on and make us long for longer days and warmer nights.

the malls certainly do not always employ musicians to serenade the shoppers. but today after my meeting, i rushed to the next building to buy some pantyhose, when i heard beautiful violin music and my feet just led me to these two. people just walked past them, totally ignoring them. not me, i heard them from quite a distance and i was so mesmerized i found myself standing in the middle of the passageway with my mouth open (i think) and just watched them. there were only two of us amongst hundreds to clap our hands in appreciation.

when they started their next piece, i settled across them and leaned on the wall, just taking in the sweet music and heavenly sound. the harpist was spectacular, his hands were so elegant as he played notes after notes. he was lost in his music when he played. the lady violinist clearly was the lead and she, too, played her instrument with such delicacy and deft it was like magic.

one person stopped and watched, then another, then more. the passersby who didn't stop passed behind them so that for a while, it seemed they were in a big stage and performing in front of an audience that actually cared to listen. then it occured to me that i should probably take a photo, so out came the camera and i took a few shots. by this time, i realized a lot of the people who had stopped were also taking videos and photos with their iPhones or cellphones.

when they finished, it was clear it was the end of their set. i crossed the passageway and came up to them. i told them that listening to them play was the best way to de-stress and that i could get lost just listening to them. i think they both appreciated it, the harpist bowed a few times, the lady seemed like she was almost in tears.

i think that while we are so stressed during the holidays, we do seem to be a bit kinder. but i always like to tell people like these musicians that their efforts are appreciated and that they somehow do more for other people aside from playing.

goodnight, my friends.
such beauty here :)

@tksharpley - thank you, TK. this is a new framing feature of ribbet.com. that's what i use for processing. it's the old picnik with a new name. picmonkey just doesn't do the job i want and it eats the exif of my photos. ribbet is just plain simple and easy to use. try it.
