In January of this year my friend Nicola bought me a beautiful orchid. See http://365project.org/susiemc/365/2016-01-19
I followed the advice of several of you on 365 but before long flowers began to fall off, one by one. Eventually they all fell off. I thought it didn't like our house. I thought I'd killed it. It got rather ignored all summer and then a couple of weekends ago a friend came to visit, saw this poor plant and said I should water it because it wasn't completely dead. I did and today I noticed some new little leaves and some leaf buds. I shall look after it properly from now on.
You could have called yours new shoots too! Sometimes a little neglect is just what a worn out plant needs! Rested all summer & its ready for off again!
It will be fine. Leave it to rest, still giving it a thimbleful of water a week and in a few months time you will see a new shoot. I have 3 with tiny shoots on 3 of my orchids. They will flower in the spring. I find it quite exciting - pathetic, I know.
@foxes37 Thanks Lis. I too am quite excited. The friend who came to visit also gave me an orchid so now I feel a bit more hopeful that they'll both survive. I'd like to build up a collection like yours.
Well done now a little TLC will soon give you new stems and blooms -- as long as you do not do what I did with a new flower stem -- as it was leaning towards the window I decided to tie it to the stake ,but unfortunately it just snapped off -- but I am glad to say it is producing another flower stem now !!
I have 3 which I've managed to over winter for 2 years . I had 5 but lost the others. Think I've just about got the hang of it now. They seem to like being in the bathroom when not In flower.
@happysnaps@beryl@onewing@brennieb@merrelyn@chimfa Thank you all for your concern and your interest. Thank you Babs, from now on it will be called Lazarus. I like that. I will keep you informed of his progress.
