Visitors to Charlestown in Cornwall may be surprised to find a large colony of white doves rather than seagulls nesting all around the harbour.
This is the legacy of a 1999 film shoot in the harbour when 200 doves were released as part of one of the dramatic end scenes in the filming of the Jane Austen tale, Mansfield Park,
The film crew went home, but many of the doves decided to stay and make their home here. There are still about 70 of them in residence. They have become a bit of a tourist attraction in their own right these days.
