I remember when I was young........ the AA having their little AA phone boxes that only members had a key to get in. They then could summon a smartly dressed mechanic who would fix your vehicle at the roadside, pausing only to salute passing cars if they saw them displaying the prestigious AA badge.
That was a long time ago. but what a lot of people don't know is that the AA during the "Cold War" played a vital role in our nuclear defence systems.
