Midnight in Chicago by taffy

Midnight in Chicago

Rooftop view as 2012 was turning to 2013. We left the warmth of the house to go up to the roof and apply what we'd learned in our night photography course. Unfortunately, I was using an unfamiliar lens and new tripod -- not a good combination, so only one of my photos gave me anything to work with. In the end, the contrasts and patterns were most interesting, so I converted to black and white.
The black and white photo establishes a stronger feeling for the night lights.

I like it...the little streams of light are intresting...I guess because of some movement. I envy city pictures...don't venture to the city too often.

Junko and I took a course in night photography, and one of the techniques we learned was moving the zoom slightly or quite a bit for different light effects. I wish I could remember how I did this -- it was a barely anything movement of the zoom. I suspect I wouldn't be able to do it again -- a lot of luck was involved!

@parisouailleurs Thanks for going back to the beginning -- and being so positive. All I see now are the flaws! So much to learn through 365!
