I was working on focus/DPF today with various still life combinations. These are gourds an artist on Beaver Island, Michigan (in northern Lake Michigan) has used to create folk art. Feedback welcome, as always.
I like how the shapes of the gourds present a nice balance, and how the colors complement each other. The gourd in the front has a wonderful natural pattern to it as well. What keeps distracting my eye a bit is the circle in the foreground -- is it another bowl? Doesn't feel like a gourd, or that it belongs to this set. Yet whatever is on the left foreground adds interest, somewhat of a lighter version of the gourd in the front, and doesn't distract.
@jyokota Hi Junko -- I"m thinking of retaking the photo with your suggestions in mind. To the left is another gourd, but to the right is the rim of a plate. I thought the curve might balance the gourd on the left and just was using it because of the line, but I think your'e right about it not fitting. @vankrey t @jankoos@tthompsonca thanks for the kind words!
