I spent way too much time to get a so-so shot. I was going for something cheerful and bright as a contrast to the dark and light challenge that I was also thinking about. But, it's 11:26 p.m. and time to upload and call it a day.
PS next day: Have you ever looked back at a photo without the baggage of what led you to take it, and thought "this is better than I remembered?" This reflects my love of all things 'school supply.' I noticed that yesterday is all about crayons, a pen, a composition book ( http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-02-19) -- but I hadn't noticed the theme. And the colors are really fun and bright -- just what I'd wanted.
You are right to look back Taffy. It is a good shot, well composed, great lead ins, colours that complement rather than clash. Now into my second year, I mix old and new shots, and the old are definitely shots where I now see something that I didn't at the time.
@seanoneill I'm just starting to realize what it means when people have advised 'it's your project'. I'm starting to be more reflective about what I'm doing and why, so this was the first time I'd looked back to think about what I wrote initially and what I think now. It was sort of fun to see it was better than I'd thought, not worse!
I think it is amazing! LOVE the lighting on the crayons! VERY unique perspective too! I do my most creative photos when I am exhausted! Glad you liked it the next day! It is really pretty!
Glad you went back and realized it -- because when I started reading your comment, I thought, "so-so?" This is bright and beautiful! The way the light hits the crayon makes you feel the waxy texture just by how it looks.

Thank you all for your comments! They led me to reconsider the photo the next day and, literally, without being frustrated I could see the photo for what it was, instead of all the ones I didn't use to get to it!
