It was a beautiful day today! This was taken from the center of Lincoln Park, looking south across the pond toward downtown Chicago. Lincoln Park is a wonderful area just west of the lake (Lake Michigan) -- an urban oasis with a little farm, the zoo, a driving range, running and bike paths, and wetlands. In the winter, there's ice skating. I also did this in b&w posted in my challenges&extras album ( http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-03-31) which gives it a very different feel. I am leaning toward color but am curious about what others think.
Ah - -- you've captured a lovely image of Chicago from a good vantage point! I just looked at the b&w and found it to be cold and wintry, yet I find the color one to feel less cold although this one has dead grass and icy water clearly visible.
What's so interesting to me is that in the color version I focus on the land and the people, while in the B&W I focus on the sky and skyline. I can't really choose! I love the diagonal leading lines that ultimately take our eyes up to the skyline.
Personally I prefer the colour because it has lots of layers to it going from the golden grass up to the clouds and sky. Its a great view. I do love the Chicago skyline.
@jyokota@seanoneill@fueast@jankoos@anwan@wendyhgill@bardejov Thank you for sharing your preferences and why. Annette, I see what you mean about how the version changes what the eye is invited to do. I hadn't thought about that before. And what I like in the color is the fluffiness of the clouds -- they look imposing in b&w but sort of upbeat in color. What's clear is that it really is personal preference as there was no clear 'winner' between the two. That's a useful lesson for me.
U like them both for different reasons..... the colour version has more impact in the sky and sea, and I like the tones of blue. The b & w one shows more detail in the skyline...... but both are great edits, well done!
Gosh - what a difference! I'm amazed... this is a spring day and lovely sky, lake etc, the B&W looks almost like a futuristic plan. Both super but I would never say no to blue sky..!
I like them both but the B&W is the more stunning one of the two. I guess because of the clouds and the sky. I have the same trouble deciding often. Fun to read what everyone else said.
@kimshots@jackie8 Thanks Kim and Jackie -- I'm leaning toward b&w now too, but keep going back and forth. @filsie65@nana2r Thanks Phil and Karen. I think your responses capture for me the differences in my responses as well. @bella_ss@lfrans@sailingmusic Thanks Sheralee, Liane, and Myrna!
@foxsparrow Thanks for your support and for visiting both the photos. I started with the color being my favorite (and thus in my main album), but now I'm moving toward the b&w. It's interesting how now they feel like two totally different photos.
Taking a second look I still like the color better. Perhaps because the picture includes both nature and cityscape. I see the whole picture in color. The black and white just makes me look at the cloudy sky. And maybe because Spring is so slow in coming this year, I've had enough of cloudy, gray skies! hehe
@filsie65 @nana2r Thanks Phil and Karen. I think your responses capture for me the differences in my responses as well.
@bella_ss @lfrans @sailingmusic Thanks Sheralee, Liane, and Myrna!
