Tonight was BBQ rib night, a tradition we've had for any visiting child -- nephew, niece, grandchildren. On the last night of their visit, Jim (Uncle Jim or Grandpa, depending on the kid) makes his very famous (in our family) BBQ rib dinner. We eat on the deck fi weather permits and watch the sunset over the course of the meal. So with departure day for the family (not us) tomorrow, that's what we did. I took this shot from the deck near where we were eating when I saw the way the sun was lighting up the area behind the swing. It was really beautiful so I hope this shot conveys the golden light.
AND, as an aside, now in Day 3 of my 365 diet, I have had a number of insights:
1. If you don't do multiple photo walks in a day, you do not end up with dozens to hundreds of photos to review and process and choose from each night, requiring you to stay up til 2 or 3 in the morning and then be exhausted the following day.
2. If you don't go online every hour (or even more often), you can get an amazing amount of work done.
3. So, a diet does not have to go from "all" to "nothing." It is possible to create a balance!
4. Creating a balance is not that clear yet, but it involves: (a) fewer photos, (b) fewer photo walks, (c) fewer checking in. It does not mean: (a) giving up viewing, (b) giving up commenting, (c) skipping postings. Hooray! Feeling a little more sane today...

I am all about and totally for balance! lol at myself. Keep up the good work- and especially the modified photo walks. Although it's nice to go out and about, sometimes limiting where you shoot can actually pump up the creative juices.
OH! OH! OH! FAV. Love this The canopy over the walkway down to that beautiful swing is just picture perfect! (my two new favorite words..hahaha) The lighting is wonderful. I really want to be there!!
Fabulous light! I love how the path leads down to this lovely swing. It looks so inviting. Your 365 diet sounds like a good one and very doable. Good for you for making balance a priority.
I love this golden hour shot! That looks like a marvelous place to hang out. And I want to be a visiting child, that BBQ rib dinner sounds super delicious!!
Fabulous golden hour photo . . . so inviting to walk down to the swing . . . Your insights into 365 diet have been interesting for me to consider since I have such a different set of 365 timing problems!
Gorgeous! I love your discipline. I had to do the same thing during the end of my first year - and I'm not employed! Now, what works for me is to take photos all day long, then I select and edit just the one I want to post the next day. Posting and and one hour of commenting go along with my morning coffee. Hour two of commenting happens right after supper. I had to stop thanking people, felt my time was put to better use by commenting on their work. So far, the system has worked for me. If time allows, I put in another hour of commenting at lunch time. If one isn't careful, 365 can take over a life!
Beautiful composition, with the path leading the eye! And the colour palette is amazing!
Balance? Hm, never heard of, lol I think your insight number one might be the solution to my problem, though! I wish I thought of it before taking several thousands of photos in 2 weeks, haha
I totally agree with your 365/life balance approach. I guess I've doing something similar - not feeling as if I have to post every day; not going out looking , so if nothing turns up, then no photo; less time spent looking and commenting on EVERY photo! Result - less pressure - more time. Love this photo. Your place and life there sounds idyllic.
such a familiar and lovely sight - good capture of this special spot. Jamie and Michael will be here in a couple of hours, so I'm dialing back activity here too until they leave. Stop by on your way home if you get the chance!
Oh wow, love the little leading line and those little chairs, looks like a very charming place, oh how I'd want to sit there and look for the sunset. Great that the 365 diet is going smoothly:)
This is so gorgeous, Taffy! I love that pink light at the bottom. This fits perfectly with the last section for the book club about creating and using a 'frame' or a 'window.'
What a beautiful shot Taffy.Wonderful composition and gorgeous light! I like your balAnced 365 diet. It makes sense and is similar to what I have tried this week. I am definitely taking less photos and for me this is a good thing as I am having to think about the shot more. Previously I was taking loads of shots each day but it was more of a scattergun approach and if one or two were good that was ok. I find its more of a challenge to take less but make sure they are keepers. Also I don't have to trawl through a hundred shots to find one or two I am happy with .
@timandelke Thanks for the details, Elke. I'm starting to see that this can work and your schedule gives me more ideas! @pamknowler Already I'm seeing that taking fewer shots is making a difference -- I'm still taking more than I should, but I'm not going for 3 or 4 walks a day and ending up with too many different settings with too many photos in each. @busylady Thanks for reinforcing that I'm on the right track (breaking my rule about not replying to each photo and just commenting instead, but this feels like a different situation!
gorgeous scene and point of view. just wonderful~kinda autumn-ish! the boardwalk leads you right down to the swing....that is begging to be sat in for quiet time and reflection. great to find your balance...so right on so many counts! fave!
Another FAV for me. I wish I could transport myself into this photo. What a sublime, relaxing, wistful capture. (or maybe the wistful part is just me, wishing I was there). Love it!
Hmm - that kind of 365 diet doesn't sound all bad!
