It's here...our last night of the summer on Beaver Island. But truth in advertising...we've decided to come back on Friday for the holiday weekend. So it could be worse. But, psychologically, it is a huge thing to be all packed up -- photo gear, electronics, books, clothes, some food we need to take back -- and knowing even when we do come back, we'll be bringing work with us, not toys to play with. Summery holidays are done. I thought a lot about what this last night's shot would be. I went with my sunflowers (the three I bought over a week ago), as they are definitely 'leaving' unfortunately: leaves are falling off, drooping. I'm going to leave them here in case they dry out enough to feature them next weekend. Combining them with the sunset marking end of summer day(s) on the island (and "colour" for the word of the day).
What a summer it has been! I've treasured my 365 friends for your joyful comments in learning about Beaver Island, your wonderful support in June and beyond as we lost our beloved Nutmeg, and the sheer fun of pushing myself to concentrate on photographic challenges, techniques, settings, themes and move outside my comfort zone. Time becomes the new challenge, but I'm confident it will work out -- and there are all the urban things to highlight in our wonderful Chicago and surrounds too!
I tried to do multiple exposures in camera, with the sunflowers and sunset, but none of them turned out. But, during the sunset, one sort of worked -- about tomatoes -- in my extras album. http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-08-24
Wonderful! Thanks so much, Taffy, for taking us along to Beaver Island! I've loved your photos and am definitely smitten by the beautiful and relaxing place.
Beautiful image, Taffy! A perfect ending to a wonderful summer. It has been a joy to follow your Beaver Island adventures. Next best thing to being there!
Beautiful soft sunset with silhouettes. Very sad it's the last night but I'll be looking forward for your pics from Chicago, I'm sure you 'll be able to catch the best parts for us.
Oh my, I understand the feelings of leaving your summer place. Now back to reality ;) I look forward to see your Chicago's captures. This is a wonderful capture. FAV.
So sad to say good-bye to a lovely summer on Beaver Island but there will be new things to see when you return home. You will leave behind both good and sad memories, but the nice things is that the good ones will remain always. What a lovely shot to sum up the summer and a perfect one for this summer I think.
The silhouettes of the sunflowers against the sunset is beautiful Taffy and tells the end of your summer vacation perfectly. I will look forward to seeing your wonderful cityscapes now.
Simply beautiful! Parting is such sweet sorrow. But as Dr. Seuss once said, "Don't be sad it's over. Be glad it happened." Or something like that anyway! :)
Taffy...this is so lovely!!! What a wonderful time you have had and thank you for sharing your beautiful world with us. This image is spectacular and a FAV!!! It's kind of dreamy and nice memory for you. Glad you are going back for another shot at it!!.
