This was a first since January 1, 2013..I took photos today, processed photos today, commented on photos today, and forgot to post! So here it is a bit late.
We went to "the kids" for dinner tonite and Greg cooked us green enchiladas. For dessert, we all (Greg, daughter-in-law, grandkids) went to a new bakery/pie place within walking distance where the choices were quite wonderful. I shared a mini chocolate chess pie...really good but not as photogenic as the muffins. I was using my 'nifty fifty' tonight and trying to find opportunities for photographing where a shallow depth of field would make sense. I do like how light weight the lens is, and realize I need more practice with it.

I first looked at your extra photo and then at this. What a contrast. This makes me feel warm and cozy inside and hungry for something sweet ;) It really captures the feeling that those little things create when eating them.
I have a Nikon so I don't have a 50 mm but a 35mm which also creates a great DOF and I use it quiet often now. It really pays off once you got a hang on it and the light weight is a major plus.
Looks delicious and great shot. Works so well with shallow DoF. I too have got my fifty on almost permanently at the moment. Had had it a few months and hardly used it. I figure I need to learn - love the weightlessness too :)
This is very inviting. Peferct dof and composition! Belongs in a cookbook - or even better in advertising the bakery! I am sure they would be thrilled with it.

Perfect for the dof - wondered about that 50mm - sure been thinking about it - just haven't figured out how to know when I'd want it vs the telephoto ahead of time!! (Most of my shooting is while I'm walking). Do love this shot though.
I have the D600 and f/1.4 50mm combo too, but rarely use the lens - just can't seem to find the right occasion where it's better than the 24-120mm lens .... nice looking muffins though
@ch1ppy_m1nton Thanks Chippy...have you had trouble with sensor oil? Or have you learned to clean it yourself? I really like the camera, but the spotting is annoying. I am planning to learn the 50mm as I can't beat the weight for a walkaround. Otherwise, I use the 24-85, but that's a f4.5 so doesn't do as well for me indoors.
@taffy I bought it second hand with a 1,000 shots taken, haven't seen the spots but I was led to believe it was a 'later' model so may not suffer. Will let you know.
Just bought a second hand Sigma 17-35mm wide-angle ....
@ch1ppy_m1nton I just went through your album to see where you'd used it. Have you just gotten it, or have you stopped taking photos with it recently? I kept my D90 and need to send my 600 in for a potentially new sensor system installation.
@taffy I am trying to get my head around using Lightroom to catalogue and then edit my images, plus I seem to have so much on at work I have spectacularly failed to do much of anything recently.
I took a bunch of pictures of a glorious sunset recently, but they're just sat on my memory card, fail ....
These look delicious. I'd eat one right now instead of dinner! You may find that you really like using the lightweight lens. Maybe not as versatile but
so easy to tote around. Fits in your purse.
I love this photo, Taffy. I do not use a DSLR so do not get the opportunity to do much of what you are doing her. Great focus just where you wanted it I think. Looks so yummy.
@synke Thanks for viewing both the Odd Couple and Muffin photos -- I didn't think about the contrast til you pointed it out. It's because it's so awful out that things like muffins seem so important to be able to have! I do wish I had one of their pies and a hot chocolate right now!
So yummy looking and love the shallow DOF.
I made muffins this morning - such a lovely treat and then nice baking smells in the house! I bet that bakery smelled delicious!
A lovely shot - it looks so tasty!! Great dof - I love my 50mm lens too as it's brilliant for indoor shots without flash!! It's light weight is a joy after my 100-400mm!! LOL!!
@38dcmoder@cjphoto@ivan@pamknowler Thanks Pam, Ivan, Chris, and Dawn! The more I look at the shot, the more I wish I'd bought some muffins to have in the house this week!
I have vowed to never post food pics, because when not done right, they can look 'not appetizing." But this is done so well! I think a 50 mm is a very good tool for food pics! The dinner sounded delicious too!
