The same tree as yesterday's shot, but cropped and processed in b&w. Trying to channel @seanoneill and his wonderful b&w photography.
Thank you so much for putting the Chicago Skyscrapers photo on Top Twenty today. I have been in meetings all day and just found out a little while ago. So exciting!! I appreciate your visits and comments and have read them tonight. But I'm very very very behind on commenting at the moment. I apologize and hope to catch up soon.
Hahaha Taffy when I saw this image (and before I saw your name) I actually did guess Sean! I suspect that is mission accomplished :) Very nice work, I like it a lot :) I can't decide if the texture at the bottom adds to or distracts from the image … did you play around with cropping further at all?? No criticism, just curious :)
@moxy I love being able to have the change of scenery. The hardest thing I've found for shooting this one was finding a place I could pull the car over in order to take the shot! I've always loved Sean's work but finding a lone tree shot in the city is REALLY hard to do. You can photograph trees in parks but never with this much openness.
@aliha Whoohoo!! It's great to be mistaken for Sean!! Yes, I did play around a lot with cropping and had about 4 different 'final' versions. Some differed in amount of cropping, others in how white to make the sky. In the end, 365 friends had given me feedback before posting, so I can't take credit for this being my first attempt. My flickr account shows some of the other versions. https://www.flickr.com/photos/taffyraphael/
@rellimdj Thanks Joe -- it was so nice to have the option for a totally different landscape. I spend the summer on an island in Lake Michigan so you can see from my shots from last summer that there's a huge shift for a few months away from the urban focus. I do like the opportunity to immerse myself in these different contexts, but always find the adjustment a bit strange and when I first get there (or back), wish I were in the other place!
Love it in b&w........works well.
