A long work today today so I had to give myself permission to skip a day of lensbaby practice and in fact, didn't have time to do photography until after dinner. Fortunately, the sunset tonight was a good one!
And for lensbaby, I worked on one of my shots from a few days ago and got it to the point where I could post it in my extras album - http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2014-07-08.
Taffy are you around this morning (probably early for you since you are west of me) but I am heading out to a Fuller gardens this morning. Hoping they are open. Any suggestions you might have to be unconventional would be appreciated.
Love your sunset. My mentor says you need something in the picture to make a sunset interesting. And you two today are perfect examples of what he is telling me.
Beautiful colors. Love the movement in the branches and inverted colors in the clouds (light background for the lower, dark, clouds and dark background for the upper, brighter, clouds). Lovely shot.
@joansmor I don't know if you've already left, but my only thoughts are...flowers either have to be stunningly clear to stand out, or taken from an unusual perspective, since they are pretty common. I think shallow DoF usually works fairly well if it's a large field, to set off one of the flowers. Sometimes I try to emphasize pattern. Those are all pretty obvious, though...last thought...I use HDR sometimes and shoot in a lower key (if I have a tripod) - so small aperture, longer exposure, three exposures, to bring out the details in the petals. I also think botanical gardens provide great opportunity for landscape shots. It all kind of depends on which lens(es) you are using. Oh, and think about their promise for post processing in b&w or other as sometimes that really brings out structures and textures that are lost when the color is the dominant focal point. Have fun or hope you had fun!
@taffy Oh Taffy I was full of ideas and then the sun and humidity hit like a brick wall. I tried to remember the things my mentor stress but even that drowned in a sea of sweat. I am yet to down load the picture but all said I think I got some good ones. There is another botanical garden I am going to later this year so I am copying what you said here and saving in my 365 folder. At one point it was supposed to be cloudy today so I was thinking I wouldn't get to go or I would have asked earlier. Then I was to tire to post last night. But I love your ideas. I dragged my close up and a few other lens but I didn't change lens just no energy. But had my tripod and my cable release so think I got something. Just being good and checking my comments and other's posts first.
Such a beautiful shot. I just love this sunset. Amazing color. So cool behind the trees. Now to find a photo to post of yesterday and need to do one of the castle the day before. Wish you were here to say which one you like. A bit washed out due to fog and clouds. Stuck to auto also. Fav for this photo.
@darsphotos When in doubt, post a collage of the two and ask folks which one they'd prefer! It's always interesting to hear opinions from our 365 colleagues!
@taffy Great idea, Taffy, thank you. What a fun day it was except for the sunburn on my face and neck. Yes, sunscreen next time and every day from now on.
