Working on some Beaver Island shots as it was a very long workday and it was so hot and humid, I didn't feel like going out after work to take photos tonight. This was taken off Barney's Lake Road on Monday. Thank Ross, Eric, Lisa, Jane, Michael, and Shanne for earlier comments/suggestions on Flickr. Processing involved cropping, vignette, lightening tree in background to distinguish from forest behind it, slightly upping contrast through filter in Color Efex.
Those turkeys remind me of P&C (PTA?) meetings . It's a lovely shot Taffy and so beautifully balanced in the dof to give visual weight to the foreground..
I REALLY like the end result...so much more focus on the turkeys after the crop...they really are the stars of the show now! The rest of the changes also creates more interest and balance...well done!
Lovely shot and it sounds like you had good advice re the processing. It makes me smile to see wild turkeys wandering around. It's so.Stunning you wouldn't see in the UK as they are bred on Turkey farms. Do people hunt wild turkeys?
This is quite brilliant, Taffy, the processing is wonderful. I have a Flickr account, but haven't done much with it, not really sure where to start. I'd be really grateful for some tips?
I love this because it looks like the birds (turkeys?) are looking across that wide expanse and wondering can they make it. I know my imagination is getting carried away again.
Love this! The composition and processing are perfect (I'm so glad you include what was done) Turkeys are so timid and difficult to shoot. We saw one trying to fly across the highway on our recent trip. Didn't know they could fly - don't think he believed it either, judging from his laboured flapping!
@aliha I hadn't used Flickr much at all. Then, I joined a small group where we critique one another so that forced me to learn how to use it. What I like about it is that the quality of the picture images are good, there aren't daily limits, and you can organize your photos into albums. It took me a while to realize that photostream will always show all your photos but that it's fairly easy to tag photos and put them in albums when you upload, and once in albums, it's fun to have your photos grouped conceptually instead of by day. I don't find the interactions in general anything like 365. It's much more impersonal. But if you want to have a small group (like a mentor group or something like that), it's pretty easy I think to set one up and then you have a way of posting and commenting on one another's photos. Others use it a lot more than me and probably would be better to ask. I'm pretty fundamental in using it for my own albums, and to be in a few groups (e.g., architecture) to see types of photos I like to create and get ideas.
Awesome end product Taffy. I like how the purple flowers are more visible now. I might have left just a teeny tad more on the right but I bet that didn't work with the plants
@janiskay Thanks for the visit and comment! The turkey flocks (?) on Beaver Island are getting less shy it seems. Or a little more bold about where they are roaming. As soon as they see a human, though, they do start walking or running, or in a few cases, flying low to get away quickly.
I haven't seen this on Flickr yet so I will be really interested to see the original. I love your focus on here and I agree with Eric that the Turkeys are the focus of the photo and really stand out. Great job. my internet is on a slow at the moment, earlier than usual this month, we have run out of data so I can't always see the images and get on to the internet much so roll on next Friday when it's reset.
The colors are so rich and warm in this photo. I especially like the dappling of purples, whites and yellows across the field where the turkeys are gathered.
@elaine55 Flickr comments really helped me determine where to crop, and also to lighten the lone tree relative to the others. I think it vastly improved the shot and I hadn't thought of either. So helpful to have feedback! I'm sure you're frustrated not able to get online for a few more days!
Wow, this is a great shot. Love your processing. Sure can do a lot to make a photo the way you want it to look. Something else for me to learn. I have not used Flickr. Do you use it just to improve a photo?
@darsphotos Flickr is just to store photos, not process them. But I'm belong to a small group there who had given me some useful feedback. Thank you for visiting and commenting, as always!
@taffy I did not see what you wrote above till now. Call it a sleepy day. It is nice to have a place to organize your photos. I use iPhoto on my Mac and categorize that way but sounds nice to be able to interact with others as well and have photos on a website instead of inside my computer though have an external hard drive to backup my photos.
