Waiting Here for a Ride Home by taffy

Waiting Here for a Ride Home

Why was I waiting there and not walking back?
1. Agreed to go for a walk in a flat area with my friend and her dog and the dog they are dog-sitting.
2. Walked carefully as my knee was still quite sore.
3. Took photos of dogs using 85mm lens, then switched to wide-angle lens.
4. Decided to switch back to focus on dogs.
5. As I was changing lenses, dropped the 85mm and watched in horror as it rolled toward the swamp (otherwise, was safely wrapped).
6. Reached quickly to get said lens before it got to the water of the swamp.
7. Heard strange popping noise and felt searing pain in knee.
8. Not able to bend knee without serious pain.
9. Hobbled out of swamp area with friend.
10. Got to road and this fence where I sat and waited for her to come back with my car to drive home.
11. Forgot about clutch which I couldn't operate.
12. Got ride to house in her car while her husband brought our car back.
13. Realize island is not best place to be with a new injury...not returning to Chicago til Tuesday.
14. Ouch...feeling sorry for myself! But much time will be available over the next 24 hours to sit, grade students' papers, and process photos so I may get caught up on my album.
OH no! All that and you still managed a lovely shot! And at least you didn't lose the lens!
November 3rd, 2014
Awesome picture.
November 3rd, 2014
Lovely shot! All good knee thoughts!
November 3rd, 2014
I sure hope you are feeling better! Glad a ride was coming and that your lens did not go in the water. I am a PT so take good care of that knee! I do love this lovely fall capture! Hope your knee is feeling better too!
November 3rd, 2014
Taffy, what a major bummer to get injured, but for a good cause (saving the 85mm lens!). I hope your knee heals quickly. Take care! As to your photo, it has a tilt-shift feel to it, which I really like. Fav!
November 3rd, 2014
ouch ouch ouch ouch- oh good the lens is safe- ouch ouch ouch ouch...
November 3rd, 2014
Holy cow! So sorry you hurt your knee… This sounds like a very distressing adventure. Glad the lens is safe. Hope you make the most of your couch time. Lovely shot, by the way.
November 3rd, 2014
How did you hurt your knee? It must have been an injury - you are not old enough to have arthritis! Looks a nice place to wait and you camera does not have a knee injury!
November 3rd, 2014
Congratulations on making the Trending Page. Well deserved.
November 3rd, 2014
Oh no! I hope it is nothing serious. On a happy note, it's a good thing your lens didn't take a swim. I hope the bump hasn't hurt it either. I hope you are feeling better soon. Beautiful capture of the autumn colours
November 3rd, 2014
FAV! a fabulous shot!!! so sorry about your knee! hope it mends soon
November 3rd, 2014
Lovely lines and fall colors! So sorry about your mishap with your lens and especially your knee. Have you had it looked at yet? Hope it isn't too serious.
November 3rd, 2014
Owww, owww, ow, I hope you are currently icing that knee while calling for medical intervention back in Chicago! Glad the lens is safe....I would have done the same thing and ran after the lens impulsively! Hope it heals well...:-(((
November 3rd, 2014
Oh no - what a tale! Hope the knee recovers.
November 3rd, 2014
Ouch! Poor you. A nice shot despite the injury though!
November 3rd, 2014
Oh what a fascinating way to tell a story but so sorry about your leg, hope it will soon be better! Lovely view and love your choice of dof
November 3rd, 2014
Oh my..sorry about your misadventure. At least it wasn't raining....looks like a lovely place to wait.
November 3rd, 2014
Oh My, what a terrible day you have had. The first 13 points are pretty drastic, but at least you have ended on 14 with a positive note. Every cloud has a silver lining. Hope you are up and running again soon. Take care.
November 3rd, 2014
Lovely shot Taffy.
November 3rd, 2014
Oh no Taffy what a horrible thing to happen! At least you friend was able to get you home to her house! Hope it's feeling better but sounds like you need to see someone about it straight away! Do the ice pack treatment to bring any swelling down. Take care!
November 3rd, 2014
Sam
Take good care of yourself Taffy!
November 3rd, 2014
Lovely shot and nice pov., hope you feel better soon.
November 3rd, 2014
Oh no taffy. We do put our cameras before ourselves at times. Rest up and hope the pain subsides soon. It's a pretty spot you waited by!
November 3rd, 2014
Nice line of the fence. I hope the knee recovers soon
November 3rd, 2014
Aaaaw ! What a tragedy glad the lens was rescued and I hope the knee will not take too long to heel - speedy recovery Taffy !
November 3rd, 2014
What a story. Pleased you saved the lens and hope the knee feels better. Great Autumn capture .
November 3rd, 2014
That does not sound good, and only goes to show the length the 365'ers go to save their camera equipment! Do hope it is not a serious injury.
November 3rd, 2014
Take care this sounds serious. Island life is great most of the time but like everything else it has it's drawbacks. Next time remember that lens are replaceable and not worth risking life or limb.
November 3rd, 2014
Oh Taffy, I'm so sorry to hear this news - I know all about knee injuries, they must be taken very seriously. Joan @joansmor has some good advice I think. Given the circumstances, I'm amazed that you managed to think about photography at all! Take care of yourself.
November 3rd, 2014
well, I learned last summer that (pain aside), there are advantages to not being too mobile -- a different kind of freedom caused by clearing your plate of other stuff. (So long as it's temporary)
November 3rd, 2014
Stunning light and wonderful colours. Beautiful shot.Oh my goodness what a day. Take care of yourself xx
November 3rd, 2014
And yet while in pain, you take a lovely image of your surroundings. Perhaps focusing on something else helped you ignore the knee pain for a moment. Glad the lens was rescued but sorry your knee was damaged.
November 3rd, 2014
So sorry about your knee - hope it isn't anything serious! Glad that the lens is allright - I know what it feels like when a lens disaster strikes. Lovely shot!
November 3rd, 2014
Beautiful shot for being in pain. Hope your knee is better soon!!
November 3rd, 2014
Terrible news but maybe you can take a photo journal of the whole doctor/healing process...glad you saved the lens!
November 3rd, 2014
Beautiful
November 3rd, 2014
Oh dear! Hoping for rapid healing. Glad you didn't lose the lens, too. Still, you got a good shot!
November 3rd, 2014
Take care of the knee. I hope you can see someone as soon as possible about it. I tore my ACL two years ago. If it is anything like that be aware that they may try to just let it heal and not fix it since you are older like me. Truth be told for photography you really need the stability the ACL provides to your knee. It is a long six months recovery though. On that note I hope it is not the ACL or another one of the essential ligaments in the knee.
November 3rd, 2014
Ouch! Hope your knee feels better soon.
November 3rd, 2014
Glad you saved your lens but so sorry about your knee! Been there and am wincing at the memory of the pain. I did the splits on skis on an icy patch at Tahoe five years ago ...followed by surgery and six months of rehab. Hope yours is minor and resolves quickly!
November 3rd, 2014
Oh Taffy. What a horrid very bad day.Hoping for pain free days ahead for you.How you managed to still get a positively lovely shot is amazing.Have to fav it!
November 3rd, 2014
Love this shot...great leading line, depth, comp, colors...fav
November 3rd, 2014
LOVE this one fav.
No one ever realizes the pains we take to gt the shot sometimes. For you it was literal. Hope you knee heals quickly and your 85 lens is in good working order too.
November 3rd, 2014
Ohhhh noooo. So sorry. Hope knee heals. And my heart sank as I read about lens. Gosh. Rest up. Lovely shot in the end.
November 3rd, 2014
Well it looks like a very nice place to wait in the Autumn sunshine. So sorry to hear about your knee - hope it soon heals.
November 3rd, 2014
Nice shot!
November 3rd, 2014
I'm not expecting an low level shots for the next few days. Ice is always a great healer. Get well soon.
November 3rd, 2014
While you've depicted a lovely place to stop for a photo, the litany trauma that occurred told of a less-than pleasant day! Your notes were gripping, even as your lens slipped away!
November 3rd, 2014
Wonderfully composed!
November 3rd, 2014
Ouch! Hope the injury will be on the mend soon.
November 3rd, 2014
This is a gorgeous capture, sorry that it ended up causing you so much pain. I hope that you heal fast and I sent back to normal!
November 3rd, 2014
Oh Taffy I'm so sorry about your knee. Mine hinders walking, especially down hill but luckily I can still drive. Great shot!
November 3rd, 2014
So sorry to hear that you are less than mobile
November 3rd, 2014
You have my total sympathy Taffy, sounds like a nightmarish day, but luckily you saved the lens. I am bogged down with a bad hip, really drags you down, so I hope your knee is not arthritic and that it is treatable really soon. Gorgeous autumnal image, love all the golden colours.
November 3rd, 2014
Oh Taffy your poor knee............I can so empathise, mine is being operated on, on the 24th November! They say rest and icepacks are good, personally I can't bear the icepacks! Glad you saved your lens, hope you get fixed soon..........great shot inall this chaos!
November 3rd, 2014
@pixiemac Oh Sarah, that's a lot to deal with! Good luck with your surgery and here's hoping for an easy recovery! I have an appointment on Wednesday morning right after we get back to Chicago with an orthopedic surgeon. Right now it's elevation and ice packs...and naive hope that it will just somehow get better. Thanks for the kind words.
November 3rd, 2014
@jackie8 Thanks for the kind thoughts, Jackie! Eek...hips are also tricky and hoping you are able to e up and around soon. Arthritis is on both sides of my family and already affects me, but hadn't affected knees or hips. Keeping fingers crossed at this point. Good luck to you!
November 3rd, 2014
You still produce wonderful shots even when you're in agony. Knees are important so keep resting. It might be just wear and tear not arthritis.
November 3rd, 2014
Symbolic capture of your road ahead. Hope all is well soon.
November 3rd, 2014
What a pretty place. Sorry to hear about your knee, hope the rest and ice packs are helping to relieve the discomfort.
November 3rd, 2014
nice!! fav!!!
November 4th, 2014
Too bad about your knee and dropping your lens.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
BTw great shot.
November 4th, 2014

November 4th, 2014
@bill_fe Thanks Bill...lens seems to be fine. Knee not so much! 24 hours later and it's not great...
November 4th, 2014
good lines, take care of yourself and follow the doctor's orders on rehabilitation
November 4th, 2014
Take it easy, Taffy! Gorgeous shot though, love the little road going off in the distance. But for now get some rest!
November 4th, 2014
Sue
Ouch!!! Sounds like youay have torn a ligament. Take care : p
November 4th, 2014
Beautiful fence line and golden autumn tones
November 4th, 2014
What a day this has been (You did come out with a wonderful shot, though! - and the lens wasn't damaged - those are pluses to remember as you stay off that knee for awhile!) Really do like anything with fences. Do hope this doesn't set you back too long.
November 4th, 2014
...but you saved your lense!
November 4th, 2014
@bob65 Your comment made me laugh out loud, before then saying "ouch!" Thanks for the visit and funny remark.
November 4th, 2014
Hope you feel better soon! Great shot!
November 4th, 2014
love the focus and Get well soon
November 4th, 2014
@annied Thanks Annie! Sorry you couldn't join us for the meet up in Sydney. Hopefully there will be a next time!
November 4th, 2014
How that's must of been really painful. Hope you feel better soon too. A beautiful photo, the lighting is remarkable!
November 5th, 2014
All that, and a great photo to boot. What woman. Your knee sounds very painful so do your best to rest it.
November 5th, 2014
I did not know that you hurt your knee. I hope you feel better soon or at least improve to be more comfortable. It is a pain in the ____ getting older. I spent yesterday in bed with Vertigo and one swollen ankle. Today I pushed to take a walk which helped the swelling. Glad your lens is ok, Taffy. Love your Fall photo.
November 5th, 2014
Love this, Taffy...super shot, lines and comp. fav!
November 9th, 2014
Congrats on being a sixws-20 finalist. This really hits home as my car is out front on jack stands after a repair gone awry tonight and Mike's car is broken down, too. We need a horse;-).
November 9th, 2014
@amandal Wow -- Thanks so much!! I'm glad to be in amongst the finalists! There were a lot of really wonderful entries, I thought.
