Not able to get out and take photos today, so processed more from yesterday's disaster of a hike. This was the spot where I saved my lens from rolling into the swamp while blowing out my knee in the process.
Conversation today after explaining what happened to my brother (physician but not ortho):
Brother: There's no such thing as an orthopedic emergency, unless you've broken your neck. So no rush.
Taffy: My neck's fine...so what should I do?
Brother: Take anti-inflammatory (discussion of which ones) and keep your knee iced. Don't walk on it.
Taffy: Don't walk on it?
Brother: Well, if it hurts, don't walk on it.
Thank you all for your kind wishes and expressions of concern over my very sad knee. I see the ortho guy on Wednesday morning and feel better after my brother gave me a list of all the things it could be that would NOT require surgery. I'm back to denial which is my family's standard way of responding... "just don't think about it and it will go away." I plan to maintain that attitude until I'm told otherwise. Stocking up on ice packs to keep in the cooler and use on the way home tomorrow.
It's a gorgeous capture...g reat color, light and reflections. Good luck with the knee. I hate hearing the sttandard "well, as we age...blah blah blah".
Best wishes!
So... I had a doctor in the family who used to respond with a "if it is hurting, stop doing it." Birds of a feather, flock together. So sorry about your knee. Lovely shot. Your colors are gorgeous.
Wonderful shot. Does RICE apply to knees, as it does for a sprained ankle? Rest, Ice, something-beginning -with-C, Elevate. C might be compression - might not apply to knees!
Gorgeous picture! So sorry about your knee. Hope it turns out to be nothing too serious. Very glad you saved your lens though. Let us know what the verdict is.
Beautiful image Taffy! Love the light and layers of colours. I hope your journey home is not too stressful and that your trip to the doctors brings you positive news! Take care!
Ha, same with my brother who is a doctor. His advice always is to take a couple of asprin, no matter what the ailment! :)
Love the scenic beauty in this image, wonderful colours. Hope you are 100% soon!
Beautiful shot. Wonderful colours. Hope your knee injury turns out to be one of the non surgery issues. Hope the pain is controlled and you can sleep and rest. Safe journey home today.
And a gorgeous view! Good adviced from your brother but I might disagree a bit about the mergency part, one does not always know the vastness of injury herself and therefor should see a doctor, there may not be orthopedic emergency but there is emergency if bones are broken cos they can heal wrong if not properly attended, one does not always know the difference herself, there isn´t always so much pain you think there would be if something is broken. I hurt my angle few years ago and thought that I had only sprankled it but later on I learned I had also broken the ligaments and they healed wrongly, too loose. So good you are seeing a professional. All the best with your knee!
Taffy, first I hope your knee isn't to bad and that you heal quickly. Now to this photo! Wow, it is fantastic, great colors and reflections. Very nicely done! FAV!
I usually go the other way, expect the very worst. The very worst seldom happens and it seems easier to deal with what has happened. LOL I'll worry for you and then it won't be the worst. Meanwhile take care and find some more treasures in your collection.
Such a pretty scene, love the sky. I hope your knee is okay, it sounds a little serious. Maybe all these well wishes will travel to you and help with the healing :)
Love the Fall color palette and the lovely reflections in the lake! Our weather has cooled down a bit here but we don't get the vibrant Autumn colored foliage.
Gorgeous shot, and a definite fav Taffy. So sorry to hear you've had a knee disaster. I too am one of those 'if you ignore it, it'll go away' people. But sometimes whatever-it-is can't or won't be ignored. I await the verdict on your knee with great interest and a little trepidation. I've already got one metal one, and keeping fingers crossed I never need another!
@golftragic Thanks Marnie and welcome back from your trip. I loved Australia and have just been invited back to Adelaide sometime next year so maybe our paths will eventually cross! Thanks also for the well wishes re my knee. I have made it home from the island and will see the doctor in a little over 12 hours...while not looking forward to it, it will be a relief to know what it is.
Lovely shot and reflection. Love the suggestion to not walk on your leg. Not sure how you're going to get around if not with your legs. Perhaps Jim can carry you.
@kathiecb Thanks Kathie! Yes, tomorrow I plan on Jim being my chauffeur for the doctor and am trying to figure out how to convince him that getting my hair cut afterwards is the high priority that I'm sure any woman would understand totally!
@taffy I await the verdict with much interest - and fingers/toes etc crossed for you. Knees are beggars of things when they go wrong. Back to Adelaide??? Do let me know details as soon as you have them and I'll make sure we catch up.
Funny conversation with your brother. Ice is always first for injuries like yours. I sure hope it is just heal and ice and meds and you will be fine. The good news is that knee surgery has come a long way so if that is the road you have to go down you will be good as new no matter what eventually, hopefully soon. Love your photo and the amazing reflections. The Fall colors are so beautiful. Take care. I have to make sure to check and see what you find out tomorrow. FAV I agree, get your haircut too.
@taffy Thank you Taffy, I´m fine now, it was many years ago but of course my angle isn´t that strong cos they healed all loose, that does have some effect for me but it´s okey, kinetic taping does help and balance training. Hope your knee is less painless & heals soon!
Beautiful shoreline photo. The leaves on the water add an eye-catching touch for me. I'm glad your lens wasn't also in the water. Such a shame tho that your knee got hurt in the rescue effort. Hoping today's appointment gives you the news you want (no surgery necessary).
I sure hope that knee is better!!! the color in this shot is stunning. But I don't like the narrative behind it. Feel better. :) Oh, and I passed tree after tree and hill after hill of color, color, color. Not one shot. Sometimes, I just have to take it for what it is at the moment--I got a ton of shots for what I was doing, but I have your shot now. :)
