A meetup on Sunday at Garfield Park was a joy -- inside in a warm upbeat place while the winds howled and snow fell.
Thank you for your wonderful response to the City Burst zoom blur shot. And your encouraging words re Lightroom. Today I revisited how to import photos and some of this is starting to make more sense. Also worked with some of the processing tools and figured out how to use Photomatix as a plug-in, and do some basic editing with LR tools. Useful YouTube - very simply explanation that made more sense now that I've done some things incorrectly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=867ysQfh4sU
Very hard pulling back from the site to use the time to learn Lightroom...I so appreciate your visiting and commenting on my photo despite that.
Back to fire saga update...no need to read further, mostly for my records:
1. Architect plans and contract bid submitted to Condo insurance. They will get back to us by Monday, the 12th.
2. Delivery of personal items continues. Packing up rental things no longer needed, for pickup to create room. Locating some missing items (antique Teddy Bear has been located and is being 'restored' with care!). Trying to get a handle on what is missing, damaged, repaired and in storage (fabric, electronics, art, household, each in different company's hands).
3. Condo is now okay to be emptied so final demolition can occur before construction can start. Still waiting for city permits.
4. Targeted complete date is 6 months from now.
Such pretty pieces of artwork in the water here. Their reflections add an extra dimension of color as well. Good to know the home project is still moving forward for you. Good luck with learning LR. I have it as a part of the Adobe CC/LR combo but haven't a clue how to use it. I'm working on an 800+ page manual on Photoshop. Mind boggling.
@lyndemc PS is much more complex from everything I've heard and read. LR is a really good storage, organizational, and processing tool, or it will be when I figure it out. Baby steps...Good luck to you and thanks for the kind comments on my photo!
Great capture with Chihuly's art pieces. I'm hoping to recover my mobility soon to go to the botanical garden near my house where he just opened a second exhibit.
This is beautiful, Taffy. Sorry I've been so out of touch lately. So sorry for all you've gone through with the fire. Happy to know that restoration/reconstruction is underway. Blessings. Fav, by the way. :)
Really stunning Taffy and thanks for sharing some of this exceptionally talented artist's creations. I have never heard of Chihuly and have googled a site representing his work. So many things to learn on 365. Fav :))
Lovely how Chihuly turns hard glass into soft flowers... such a pretty shot, in the teeth of winter. Thanks for posting the link to the video... slowly, slowly, progress. :)
@taffy LR is definitely next on my list of study subjects, although the conversations I'm seeing around here keep catching my eye and have me peeking at the program ahead of schedule.
The Spencer Theater here in New Mexico has several of Dale Chihuly's installations. His glasswork is recognizable immediately. This is such an artistic combination of the glass with water. Very nice.
Isn't life a hard balancing act. You want to learn LR to work with your photos which mean you have to spend less time with the photos. Take the long view. Sometimes we have to spend time today doing things which don't bring us as much immediate joy so we can do better things or have more time tomorrow. I try to convince people of that at work with learning new computer skills.
A lovely shot showing off his beautiful glass work. @lyndemc I got LR about a year ago and made the HUGE mistake of jumping in without having a clue what I was doing, the one golden rule is NEVER move or rename any of your photos outside of LR as the consequence of doing so is huge! as an editing software it is great and one can pretty much do everything with it, however I have just subscribed to PS and am completely overwhelmed and simply don't know where to start.... oh well, no pain no gain!
This is so pretty! Love the soft reflections! Good to hear your making progress with LR! There are so many instruction movies from adobe on their site about LR. I watched them when I started and after I started watching YouTube clips by other people!
@dibzgreasley They really are the size they look, though they are made of glass. Chihuly does beautiful installations and his work is in museums across the US, but I suspect in other parts of the world. This is the installation that is permanent at the Garfiled conservatory, but they once had a traveling exhibition with many more items and it was spectacular to see.
@jankoos Thanks for the fav and, even more, the kind words! I do love Chihuly's work -- so photogenic, but just so beautiful and elegant that it's a joy to look at. Yes, the fire was major and has consumed my life for the past 2 months. We will be out of our home another 6 months, it looks like. Quite the mess but I am learning so much about insurance and other things I'd never planned to study so intimately!
@jankoos Thanks Jan...that's the process we are in the midst of now. Possessions have been cleaned and much will be saved that was not in the front of the house where the fire and water damage was most severe. Sad losses are the irreplaceable memory things but not necessarily correlated with monetary value. It's just sad to see a lifetime of items in all different conditions reduced to boxes of 'stuff' but it also has made me realize just how much 'stuff' we accumulate that is just not necessary!
This is spectacular - can't imagine what it looks like in person. Thank you from all of us who would never get to see his work. You certainly captured it beautifully.
@jo13 Thanks for the LR tip. I open up the program, look around, feel that sense of being lost and head back out. Good luck with PS — understanding layers is a prime first step.
How I'd love to see the entire display...this amazing photo leaves me wanting more and more! The last time Heather took me there, it was to see the Niki de Saint Phalle exhibition...what a gorgeous setting for art!
Wow what an amazing piece of artwork! I thought they were real at first. I have never heard of this artist so will have to do some research. You learn so much on 365! So pleased some progress is being made Taffy with your possesions especially that your bear has been found! Keep it up with LR you are doing so well! I admire your determination to learn it properly rather than throw yourself in as I did! Fav!
hated these when they put them in there. Today they're making me feel warm and happy with the remembered heat of the greenhouse and the warmth of many happy memories there. My family's idea of a nice Saturday afternoon: oh, let's go to the conservatory.
This is such a beautiful shot, Taffy. I love the colors and detail you captured so well along with the waterfall that makes this photo for me. I agree with Junko, a postcard for sure. FAV
Sorry it will be another 6 months from now to move back in but not surprised at all. Best of luck with all you are going through in regards to your home.
I'm so sorry to hear about the fire. Sounds like a tremendous mess.
How lovely that your antique teddy bear has been found. I have a teddy which was mine when I was born and I still have it, would hate to lose him.
This image is beautiful. We have a Chihuly exhibit in Seattle that is really fabulous, too.
Fav.
Poor you with so much to still sort out.
Sorry it will be another 6 months from now to move back in but not surprised at all. Best of luck with all you are going through in regards to your home.
