First, many thanks for putting my sky collage at the top of top twenty this week. Very very exciting!
Then, tonite's post. After showing Jim candidate photos, with the following reactions...decided to post this instead.
Reaction to photo 1: Yeah, it's an ant.
Reaction to photo 2: What in the world is that? You'd need to explain it (Rose with eyes and a clock representing passing time)
Reaction to photo 3: Yeah, it's okay. At least I know what it is.
Reaction to photo 4: Sort of interesting
My reaction after sharing these...I give up on today's photos. Will choose one I've been wanting to post from past excursions. This was captured in Athens, in the street near our hotel.
Not-so-great Chicago Fire Major Update:
Home reconstruction completion date confirmed as July 17th.
The bad news...that's in the middle of the Beaver Island Music Festival and we have planned, since last summer, on our friends coming up for the events.
Really too bad about the poor timing of music festival and project completion/move in. This graffiti made for an interesting photo, though tagging like this used to drive me nuts in Minneapolis. There's less of it here in Manhattan (KS).
Nice shot, Taffy. I like how you captured it. Maybe should have just picked a photo yourself. Lol. My husband always liked opposite of me though sometimes he was right. Sorry about moving back home and the music festival conflicting. You will work it out. Is this your actual move in date or just completion and can you wait a bit to move in or usually at Beaver Lake for too long to consider that? Our bathroom remains torn apart as I got sick last Saturday and progressively got worse. Dr on Wednesday, antibiotics, nausea meds, cough meds, use inhaler, lots of fluid, chest x-ray, cough drops and lots of kleenex. I have pneumonia. Will be better in 2-3 weeks. Thank goodness Vacation time not till end of month. So grateful for my very helpful hubby, even coming home at lunch. FAV
The graffiti could be anywhere any country. What gives the shot away is the scooter which for me identifies this as any Mediterranean country. You can hear these very noisy bikes wherever you are especially at night! I could definitely be in Spain looking at this shot. What a pain the clash of dates! You must go to the Beaver Island music festival with your friends - use your charm to work out a compromise date for the completion.
Definitely universal but small clues say Europe for me - the scooter, the walls and windows. Love the little Cannabis sign hidden behind the drain pipe!
I agree with the above comments, definitely universal. Pity to see that Athens hasn't been able to escape graffiti too. I am a big fan of street art, but graffiti isn't art and such a shame people plaster it all over the walls.
You must go to the festival, moving back into your home a day late isn't too bad. I am sure a compromise can be made on the completion date.
Definitely a universal shot. The little scooter does suggest somewhere in Europe. Like Babs I would prefer that they did more artwork than just scribbles or names. I hope you can arrange your move to suit your time at the music festival. Murphy's law that it comes at the same time!
Sorry to hear about the timing of your move. Maybe the date will move again? I laughed when reading what Jim says. My family can rarely agree on what is a good shot, so now I don't ask but post what I like. I'm sure all your shots are good. That rose sounded very interesting! Nice graffiti shot too.
Well, it's colorful! Joe also reviews the day's offerings in a fun nightly ritual moment. Only rarely do I disagree with his views, as he has quite the eye. But when I do, it's usually over something he REALLY dislikes (as opposed to something over which he is neutral).
Graffiti captures are some of my fav subjects and this one is fabulous - of course, a fav for me. But i think what I enjoyed even more was the story behind the other capture choices - thanks for the smile this morning!
Greek graffiti! Don't remember seeing any of that there- but I'm sure it was! You are going to have an adventurous summer to say the least- but not in the way you expected!
@pamknowler@salza@888rachel Thanks for the visit, comment, and kind thoughts! Our move in date can't be delayed as our landlord has now rented out our wonderful temporary condo and the new tenants arrive July 18th. VERY sad about leaving!! But Jim just created a schedule that might be able to have us move in a few days earlier (if the construction goes smoothly at the end) and leave in time for the festival. Keeping fingers crossed!
@onewing -- oops...thought you were tagged in the message above but my reply didn't "take" -- see above...and thanks for the visit and good wishes, of course!
Your return to your REAL home seems almost 8 months to the day. That hardly seems possible. Bummer about the timing with the music festival but it seems as though there may be a plan in place that will ensure a happy ending all the way around. *keeping fingers crossed, too*
Jim's commentary sounds much like the boy's when I ask him on most occasions. However, most of my posting is long after his bedtime, so, I'm more likely to show him the next day. His pat answer? "That's nice, mama." (Intonation and sincerity varies depending on his level of enthusiasm, agreement with my choice, and whether or not he's distracted by anything electronic at the time of sharing!)
i believe it is everywhere because so many have no voice (at least that is heard) and choose to speak in this way. So many taggers are minorities and the poor, and this is their way of making a mark on their world. (IMHO - would be a GREAT topic for a sociology dissertation)
This is a well composed vibrant image... of vandalism and criminal damage! How many of the admirers of Grafitti would be happy for their own property to be 'enhanced' in this way?
Not a fan of graffiti but do find this quite colorful and as you said, definitely universal! Do hope that Plan B works out for the move. Sure keeping my fingers crossed.
Sorry that your construction date is right in the middle of the music festival. Bummer! The remarks and comments on this shot are just as interesting as the shot itself, which could be anywhere. Fascinating, in so many ways.
Without a doubt in my mind, this is art. To me "Art" is a very broad term that can be used to describe many different mediums of expression and visions. It can deface the side of a building, or move ones soul to the point of tears. It can bring back memories long forgotten. It can take you somewhere you didn't know you wanted to go. So, yes, this is Art! Fav!
Usually I like graffiti, but not quite sure what to make of this.....I love the jumble of colors, and the way they brighten up that wall, and of course, the placement of the yellow scooter. If you had not mentioned that this was in Athens I would never have guessed, as there is not a single Greek letter in there!! I will just assume that these are acronyms for some political party, or something. Great find!
@taffy Thank you, Taffy. You are right, what is going around is serious and many are going into Pneumonia. Not sure if it is our drought or the winds we get from it being so dry. Coughing a lot still and now a bit intestinal too. One of the ladies I follow on here who lives in Oregon said it is going around there as well. I just called my Contractor who will work on our bathroom. Cannot afford a do over so will have the tile in our shower redone with something they use over the current tile. Had to cancel them today as I do not want anyone to get sick. My Contractor said a lot of people have what I have and he is very concerned about our drought and how they are handing the water in our area, once a week as we are using more to try to give our lawns a soaking. Most do not have a heavy restriction as we do and use less water, watering 2-3 times a week. Does not help that it was 100 yesterday and 103 today and staying in the 90's till Friday when it is about 100 all weekend long. Wish they could find a solution as they did years ago for So Ca as they get most of their water from the Colorado River. Scary to talk to my Contractor of this drought going on, our homes being worth nothing and having to leave. Just a worst case scenario but a 50/50 as we have to get a lot of rain come October or November and through next Spring. Bees are dying in our pool. We let our lawns die then the birds are without worms. Our eco system is already getting messed up. Sorry for rambling a bit. Hope all is going well there and plans to move back into your home are moving along as planned. Take care.
@taffy So true, the effect of our drought is a huge problem on so many levels. It was actually 108 today. Wonder what is to come. Did not expect an early Summer heat up. Hubby is in our pool. Way too hot for me to even breath. Our cat has been sick too so keeping him inside. Take care.
