No need to comment...ache all over. Only photo from today and barely made the cut for posting. Document shot essentially.
Instead of reading further please grab camera and find some stairs so you can enter the mundane-stairs challenge this week! Here's the link: http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/25806/announcing-mundane-challenge-stairs
On to complaining about gardening...really, not worth reading!
Hours to prepare soil, Hour to go get plants to put in pots around deck. Lugged heavy manure bag (well, Jim did, but I had to lift it into the wheelbarrow). Put in plant food. Mixed with soil. Emptied old soil from pots and used new dirt combination for flowers. Planted 40 flowers into 17 different pots in different combinations. Put in wrong plant food for all 40 flowers -- used one for roots, not flowers (are you kidding me? How would the plant know??). Will have to fix tomorrow. Wonderful helpful neighbor to the rescue with food that will balance out what I did so I don't have to redo everything. Hired person to help with weeding and grounds stuff, as I am unable to distinguish weeds from flowers (overgrown as we are late getting up here). Hired person (runs the garden shop here) was going to come Tuesday as she could see the mess I was in. Now is delayed a week. Means I must begin weeding and cleaning. Determined I can at least identify dead things and pull those out. Not looking forward to tomorrow or the next few days of this. Want to be on a bicycle or on the golf course or walking with my camera.
If you have gotten to this point, wishing you a more fun Sunday than mine will be.
Off to sleep except it is going to hurt to climb the stairs!
I only like it in the early part of the season...then when I am done getting the garden in order I want to be done. But it is never DONE! Beautiful geraniums...awesome color and focus. Hope you are able to move in the morning! :)
I can certainly relate, though I do enjoy gardening. We were only gone a little over two weeks and I can't believe how the weeds have taken over! Its a never-ending job tending a garden and it usually gets overgrown with weeds when I tire of pulling them.
Seventeen pots! Wow - going to take a lot of watering! I must find some vivid red geraniums and put them into a window box (if I had one....hint hint to hubby)
Who does all the watering when you are not there? I have to water my tubs every day as they dry out. I cut the grass but that's about my limit! Luckily we have shrubs all round the garden but they have to live with the weeds as I can no longer kneel down to get to the weeds! I love the deep colour of your plants which are nicely shown here. I hope you don't ache too much in the morning! My stairs are so boring!
You make me laugh taffy. We gave grown tomatoes and flowers in tubs this summer. Littlest thoroughly enjoyed the process of upending the potatoes tubs and hunting for potatoes. On Tuesday he kept asking to do it again, I kept saying no do again once we'd eaten the potatoes..... when he was out in the garden saw he wandering about with a flower tub, wondered what was doing so watched him, he carried it to the bottom of the garden, upended it and rummaged about in it, sadly came into the house and informed there were no potatoes in the tub. Strange that geraniums don't generally grow potatoes. We're at the second soft play party of the weekend today....
Ha ha what a fantastic narrative. I am not keen on gardening either and now reading what you have said has put me off for life.
Nice picture though. So some good has been achieved by gardening.
Oh hahaha me too! I am happy to plan and then ask someone else to do it. I love getting messy but an useless at digging and weeding. Never mind. Love your geraniums by the way!
Lovely geraniums Taffy. I smiled at your comments as I often ache after gardening but unlike you I love it! Hope your pots and garden survive the season
Hehe, I love your story. My husband has banned me from gardening because I don't know a weed from a plant, so glad to hear there are others out there like me!
@pamknowler Ah...morning is not as bad as I'd thought it would be. I'm tackling the three flower boxes that sit on our railing next. 2 of the three are downstairs...so I'm getting a slow start. Counted an amazing number of mosquito bites despite being sprayed up, so am glad the wind is up today. Off to work!
I agree with every work you write! I always wish my garden looked better, but I don't put in the effort to make it so! These geraniums are beautiful though.
The boy and I are just in from a bit of gardening. It's VERY low key this summer. I'm not aching! YAY! Next, we're off to see the movie "Inside Out" in the hopes I'll be able to use it with him to help him identify and express emotions. I'll know in less than 3 hours! *fingers crossed*
Moral of the story? Leave time to do things you like too! The garden will, undoubtedly, still be there tomorrow!
Taffy, this is hilarious........if you hate it that much.....how about astroturf and very deep bark so that the weeds don't grow through! Life's too short to do stuff you hate!
Well, if it's any consolation, they're very pretty! I have down-sized my gardening tremendously thanks to arthritis. And this year the squirrels dug up the seeds I'd put in my pots on the deck and the deer ate off all the lily buds. So it's looking pretty barren and boring here. I agree with you- all that sounds like a tremendous amount of work. But in the end, you'll enjoy it so take a long hot bath to ease those aches and pains. You've earned it!
Ha ha that was so funny to read (sorry I love gardening!!!) but my husband doesn't and hasn't a clue what's a weed and what isn't This is still a lovely shot Taffy, you simply couldn't take a bad one. Oh and think how beautiful the flowers will look throughout the summer.
Great rant :). I couldn't agree more. In fact we have all but decided to sell our house as the block is too much for me to maintain. Between the fire brigade, locksmith work, and now increasing photography work I am a little short on time for the mundane task of gardening.
@redy4et Haha!!! I totally agree! That's exactly what I as thinking today as I had to get the hose set up for watering all the ones I planted. And I haven't yet gotten and planted the ones where I have to fill a watering can. Really...you'd think once we give them a good home, lots of food in their soil, and a great environment, that would be enough!
Thanks for your visits tonight!
I didn't follow the instructions about stairs yes, but will in a moment! I had to read about gardening. You can take a survival of the fittest approach to gardening too (well, once it's planted. oh, and weeded. Oh, and watered)
You are way too funny. I used what soil I had this year. You do not want to know what I mixed with what in my plant pots but I am getting Roma tomatoes. I love the colors of these flowers. One of my favorite colors. Great photo as always. Look forward to seeing the fruit of your labor. Not doing planting here other than what I have done. Our drought is taking away what is alive unless an individual human is caring for potted plants in their own yard. Hubby just got drops of rain from the sky and it stopped. I am a big bummer about all this right now. It will get better, it will rain too. FAV
