Did a nature hike to Big Field (yes, that is it's name -- it's a big field) and Millers Marsh today. I wish the heron would have flown closer to us -- this is cropped quite a bit. But it was a rare enough sighting that I thought I'd post it as a documentation shot.
Big thanks to all for the comments/favs that led my kokopelli / bokeh shot to TT this week. I am so appreciative of your support!
You deserve all the TT's shots with your excellent eye for a good photo, Taffy! This fellow would be flip flapping across your vision so its nice to see him in action!
It's always exciting when you see a heron flying past. You just need quick reactions to capture them!! Well done - it normally takes me a moment to register and then it's too late!! LOL!!
Beautiful capture. I was so excited when I say one flying above my head and was so surprised that I couldn't fiddle with the settings and took shots as they came.
Nice shot, regardless of how close you were. I took my camera to the Rock River today and was going to munch a breakfast then take some photos, and one flew right past me (I could have captured his snout pimples) as it made it's way upriver while I was stuffing my face. Timing is everything.
@bigugly That's more likely what has happened with me in the past. In fact, the reason we were there was to search for sandhill cranes which my friend has seen on both recent visits. But, they must have known I was there with my telephoto so they didn't put in a single appearance!
Isn't it impressive how gracefully these gangly birds can fly. You've captured that with this picture. For all the graceful flights I've seen, it's never been when I had a camera in hand. Super congrats on your TT honors. That was a great photo!
On a quick look I thought someone had thrown a hat in the air. This is not meant as a criticism but rather a comment on the shape he forms in flight. Some of my bird pictures are severely cropped. But if you caught him once you may get a second chance.
@joansmor@rosiekerr THanks for the visits Joan and Rosie -- and yes, I plan to hang out at the marsh and try again but hopefully without the bright sun overhead and with the heron flying closer to me!!
Congrats on TT.
