I've lost track of where the moon is in its cycle, given the cloudy nights we had. Back in Chicago after a quick snowy trip to Beaver Island. We were able to change flights to a late morning one and learned tonight that it last one to leave the island for the day. This photo was taken as we came into Chicago and Jim decided to stop to pick up dry cleaning. I couldn't believe the photo op as I looked down the street at an old classic church tower with the moon above it.
Thank you for your kind comments on the aging hydrangea and Barney's Lake before the snow hit. Responses (for all of us I'm sure) will become spotty over the U.S. holiday weekend.
Thanks Richard -- for anyone interested, it is a WAXING moon! See Richard's comment below.
ETSOOI-58 -- it started as a horizontal daytime shot with tons of trees...ended as vertical image in b&w. Processing on LR and Silver Efex.
The moon seemed to have captured a few 365ers yesterday. The others I saw though were day time ones. You do take more note of it when you are into daily photography.
Fabulous capture - the church looks a bit like a medieval castle. It's a waxing moon and almost full: dark on the left = waxing - dark on the right = waning. Fav.
Your fabulous exposure shows wonderful details in both the the moon and the church! I can imagine how excited you were to discover this scene, and you captured it beautifully! Instant FAV!
A lovely opportunity... it almost looks medieval. The details in the moon are super and the composition is really nicely done. A relief that you could make it back to Chicago, too.
Super capture. I like Richard's description, although it is swapped around for the southern hemisphere! We have the darkside on the right when the moon is waxing and dark on the left when the moon is waning.
Beautiful capture! I was wishing I felt better last night because the moon was awesome- but a day full of unexpected cleaning due to an old water heater giving us warning signs it's about to die, just plain wore me out and I couldn't bear the thought of standing another minute! This is gorgeous and all the editing made it a powerful image. fav
FAV -- love your processing to create a nighttime ambience! I saw a spectacular image here in Tbilisi when I arrived at 4:15 am, and I tried to get the taxi driver to pull over so I could capture the moon with the orthodox church under it but I don't speak Georgian and he clearly didn't speak Japanese or English so we sped by. Bu the image remains in my mind. Your capture reminded me of that moment. Safe travels and happy holidays!
