Still going through shots from my photowalk with Elizabeth, Joe, and Junko. So many photos and so many good memories to go with them! With every shot, the lighting had changed, and I did have fun using two different lenses. This was with my superwide angle which is also my sharpest lens and the one that is most reliable even without a tripod.
Thanks for your wonderful and supportive responses to the photos from this meetup -- taking them to PP, and making so many nice comments!
I love this wide angle view! Another super image from wonderful California! On my list of places I must visit! I must check my lenses - I think I have a super wide angle lens but haven't used it much. It might come in useful! Fav of course!
Just caught up on some of your images, you are such an amazing photographer, so many stunning images, love them! Could easily fav them all. Have a great day!
There's a huge depth of appeal here Taffy. Subject matter, towering. Leading lines converging and taking you to the sun & sky. Surf and shadows. Beautiful sky and not least is the in depth processing. I don't know how much time you spend but do you really have enough our in your day???? ;)
Another beauty! Echoing the comments above, so much to admire about this shot. Your processing really helps it come alive. Another location on the "must visit" list... your shots really show it off to great advantage.
@dianen If you use a Nikon, the 14-24 is an absolutely amazing lens. Class is clear as can be, sharp, and great color. Look for a used one as they are pricey! And it took me about a year to figure out how to use it well.
@dianen The macro (105mm) was my first non-kit lens I purchased and I do love what it does. The WA was next but I had to grow into it. I hope you are able to find one at a reasonable price. I bought it used and have been quite satisfied with its quality.
@taffy thanks, I will look into it! My first non kit lens was my 70-200 2.8 zoom! Its great! I needed it especially to shoot my kids basketball games! Gym lighting is the worst! After I got it I was astounded at the difference between good lenses and kit lenses!! Since then, I'm slowly upgrading! Gotta pay off the macro then I'll check into a WA!
Just fantastic Taffy, and a fav, of course. Every time I see one of these kind of shots from you, and the quality of the image, I remind myself that I've got a Canon 10-22 and should learn to use it properly.
Yes, another FAV, and I am so glad you are posting all these different views of the pier from your photo walk in Oceanside! Sometimes when I go out to photograph at sunset I come home with hundreds of photos in less than an hour as the colors and light change constantly on a good day. Glad you were able to experience it.
@jgpittenger I'm sure it was from the hdr processing. I reduced it as much as I could but then if I went any further, I lost some of the rich color. So, I thought for this one, I liked it enough to live with the halo. I vaguely remember there is a way to fix it in PS but (a) couldn't remember and (b) had already spent too much time on it for now. Don't you get frustrated when there's a halo like this in a photo you otherwise really like? What do you do?
@panthora We soooo missed you but hard to be sad knowing you were on a safari!! Jim and I just started planning one for next year. How was it? I can't wait to see your photos!!
Taffy I hope you don't mind me revisiting and further commenting on Sun Sets at the End of the Pier, but it's been niggling away in my brain at 2am this morning!! This image really does have SO MUCH! Are we witness to a growing spurt in your abilities? This image alone is enough to send me scuttling away and want to emulate (not copy) your skills. Even to the point of wanting to invest in a prime lens of two and turn my back on my single telephoto kit lens. More, Taffy. We want more. ;)
@365projectorgsebgritt Aw...this is such a nice comment! I'm sorry, though, that it meant you weren't sleeping!
One suggestion is learn to use hdr without going over the top. It helps a lot!
What makes this a wonderful shot for me is the clarity, sharpness, colour, tone and most of all it makes me want to climb up and walk the line and I don't do that very often anymore. You definitely have captivated me with this one. I'll have to call "me photo buddies" and go to the peer before the snow falls and try to capture the same. Who am I kidding perfection only comes once in a while and you got it with this one who can repeat it. Enviously yours...
@cathrinemitch I know how lucky I was. We had 2 nights in a row of really interesting color in the sunset. And then, the animal activity -- the birds, and humans -- the surfers...it really was quite magical!
