This is so beautiful Taffy! I find I keep repeating myself in the textures. Is there a way to take a step back if you don't like what you have done? I find I have to go back and start again which is so time consuming! When you like a texture do you save your work and then start again to add another texture? I am sure there must be short cuts but haven't found them! Better watch another tutorial! Fav for your beautiful image!
How do you add the textures. Are you using blending modes and mask to put the texture where you want. Some I see are on the whole picture and I like it better when a mask is used so the man subject isn't texture. Just curious how you are doing this. I did an extensive class on textures in my digital scrapping.
@joansmor I use Topaz Texture Effects, and use masking in two different ways. The 'main' mask masks out the effect permanently no matter how many layers are added. Then, within each texture there is a mask that applies only to that texture. I tend to do the permanent ones on something like this, but if I want it more subtle, I'll use the ones associated with the specific layer I've added.
@pamknowler When I'm still in Textures, I can go up to the ones I want to change and 'open' them with the little arrow on the left, or 'trash' one if I want to remove it. Sadly, once saved, it's gone. I can't figure out how to do a recovery which is why I think PS is more likely to be the more powerful tool in the long run. Topaz is just so much more intuitive!
The texture works almost like a spotlight, which is kind of neat. Almost as if the insect and leaf are balancing on it, like a lily pad. So fun to learn new things. :)
The clarity on the leaf is what draws my eye. The technicalities of what you are doing in editing way beyond me but sounds like you are on a learning journey.
@sailingmusic I wish I did know. I'd never tried the 'frame' function in textures and I liked this option because it did end up feeling 3-D. I think because the wing at the top looks like it is sitting on the outside of a circle or something. Thanks as always!
Super processing. For me (and it's a personal opinion) I would prefer a less definitive edge to the black cut-out. I do like that a portion of the leaf and the rear wing are popping out over the cut-out.
