Catching up from a really fun international meetup here in Chicago that started April 30th and drew to a close May 7th. The week started with good spirits but terrible weather. However, that didn't stop anyone. This was taken on our first walking tour of "must-see Chicago" by the Chicago Architectural Foundation. Chicago River, looking east.
Love this Taffy, what a wonderful meet up you've had. The detail is wonderful and I just love the mist rolling in which adds another dimension to the shot. Did you bracket and do HDR or tone map 1 photo? An instant fav
@elaine55 I used HDR, following the steps that would lead to (I hoped) a 'natural' look. The lighting was fairly tricky so a single shot wouldn't have captured the range. Even with HDR, I used LR to adjust the lighting in the three layers (sky, building/bridge, and river).
Great image Taffy, and so good as an HDR to get the full colour of that wonderful scene. Well done to get the fog looking like that, I've yet to master that skill. Most, if not all, of our fogs are firmly grounded so not much chance of something like this anyway.
Fabulous shot and I love how you have captured the fog. so glad that your international catch up was a success even though the weather wasn't too great.
I love the atmosphere you have captured here Taffy!! I wish I had thought of using HDR as I was really struggling with exposure. I am so glad we saw this view in the sunshine with a blue sky too!! Fav!
The fog was a wonderful added dimension to this tour! Given that it undulated as the guide spoke, we had to "look fast!" as some details came and went. This is just lovely, and yes, very atmospheric!
@taffy I know I have commented but it's a great shot.
All being well I will be over in the US covering this year's Ryder Cup at Hazeltine near Minneapolis. I am considering coming out early, with the view to stopping at Chicago (where our London flight lands before connecting to Minneapolis) for a couple of days and nights. I was thinking a quick photo meet with you and @ukandie1 might be possible?
I would love to get some big skyline shots of the city, particularly at sunset/blue hour, including some good old light trails, as well as some tips for places to eat and visit etc.
What do you think?
@stevecameras I would love to get together with Andie! What are the dates you'd be here? It looks like end of September for the event, so you'd be here a little earlier? I'm going to be in Hawaii for a photo class and then some work stuff and won't be back til September 30th. Then, I'm around after the event and could easily meet then. Is there any chance of your stopping after the Cup? Maybe we'll be in the new condo by then (or at least, we'll own it and can go to the roof to take photos)! Either way, I'd be glad to make recommendations, but it would be more fun to be here in person if you can work it out from your end. @ukandie1 Andie, what works for you?
@taffy@ukandie1
Hello both!
The dates I am thinking of visiting are around Friday 23rd September for two to three nights and then I would be heading to Hazeltine on the Monday 26th I believe.
I can't do any dates after the event as I am working on the Dunhill Links event straight after in St Andrews in Scotland, so it looks like you guys will be both away when I might be in the city.
No worries, it would have been great to meet but yes I would very much appreciate any location tips for shots! :)
@stevecameras I should be about for the dates you mentioned. Just talked with my friend and she confirmed early September. So if all goes to plan I will be happy to share my adopted home city with you.
@stevecameras I'm disappointed not to meet you but am happy to make suggestions, and glad that Andie will be around. Wish I could join you! If you send me your email, I can send a list of favorite spots. Mine is teraphael 'at' gmail.com
