A day that starts with a golf tournament and ends with a photo walk, all in sunshine and clear skies, has to rank as a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. Vickey and I spent about an hour at Barney's Lake chasing dragonflies. This one fascinated me -- what happened to her wing? And how many dragonflies will she spawn from her egg sack? She was most cooperative allowing me to photograph her.
Thank you for putting the horse's dream on PP yesterday!
My goodness me, wonder how she flies missing one wing? Wonderful shot, lots of detail to look at. How was the golf? We played today, and I had the worst score I've ever had!
They are such fighters Taffy that you often see them battle scarred but this looks like serious damage! Great to see the egg sack - not seen that before although I have watched then laying their eggs into the water. Beautiful light on her wings! Sounds like a perfect day! Fav!
Now I know what that lump on the end of her is! I doubt that she could fly properly without that wing - just go round in circles. Poor Mrs Dragonfly! fav for the focus!
@terryliv A good question. I didn't notice the missing wing until I had the images up on my computer. I'd been shooting into the sun so was focused more on not overexposing and didn't even look at the shape. When I saw her land, I don't remember seeing anything unusual, so it might be she's adapted.
I have never seen an egg sac on a dragonfly... amazing. Makes me wonder how this insect can fly, with the missing wing. Beautiful delicacy on the wings and great focus.
Such a wonderful and unique capture! This is the first time I've seen a dragonfly with an egg sac and a missing wing. Fantastic focus and love those glistening wings! :-)
So sharp...great macro.
