Continuing posting from safari as I work through images. Elephants continue to intrigue me - so family oriented and such expressive faces.
I'd hoped to capture the eclipse and blood moon last night but unfortunately fell asleep!
Elephants are so intelligent too. I have been reading books on my kindle by Laurence Anthony about all the conservation work he did before he sadly died - well worth a read! I have learnt so much about these magnificent creatures from reading his books. Fav for this lovely image
What a wonderful shot, this elephant looks like its had a hard life. I hesitated to write this next bit, but I'm so distracted by the smaller elephant in your shot, it just grabs my attention. Do you think it possible to edit it out? It's a definate fav for me all the same.
@gamelee I'll see what it looks like. I'd thought about taking it out, but then wondered if it was useful to show the elephant, while a hard life in its face, was not alone. But I appreciate your thoughts and recommendation.
A actually kind of like the contrast between the aged elephant in the foreground while the one in the background, appropriately fuzzy, represents the continuation of the bloodline. Probably making stuff up, but it works for me. It's a very intriguing capture. And a fav, of course.
Aren't they so fascinating to watch. I found it so relaxing to just sit and watch their comings and goings. This fellow looks full of character. Re the small elephant, I can see both points of view - I think perhaps if the background one was lighter in colour than the main character, and more easily separated, it might be better? I had real problems getting a good composition with my elephant shots, they all seemed to overlap with one another in an unhelpful way for the photographer. So I am in no way entitled to comment! It is a great portrait shot.
That old girl would have many stories to tell, some of them probably not too happy ones, she's had it hard at times. I rather like the blurred elephant in the background, to me it sets the context of the herd/family. The old elephant alone is a more than worthy subject too. To my mind with and without background elephant makes two quite different images.
