Hi...I'm Giraffe as many of you know, and yes, pathetically in need of a better name. I'm enjoying my new life in Chicago with views that are very different than the ones I had in Tanzania, my home country. I'm a little nervous about this weekend when the weather becomes dangerously cold (20 below 0 F at night -- that is awfully cold). But so far, no one expects me to go outside - onto something called 'scary balcony' that you can see behind me. I'm happy living inside for now, with plenty to watch from the window.
Taffy will return soon, with more pictures from my homeland.
UPDATE: I have a name! Twiga Rafiki (Swahili for Giraffe Friend). I like that it honors my homeland, and also, Twiga is a Tanzanian brand for banana beer, so good thoughts there too. And Taffy and I share the same initials this way (TR).
He is gorgeous. I made a 5 ft tall macramé giraffe out of jute years ago and he now resides in my daughters house, she called him Geoffrey. So maybe that could be a good name for him.
Hi you wonderful creature, I would love to change places with you, even if only for a short while. Looking forward to see the rest of your friends from Africa 😉
He looks so at home in his new abode. I don't blame him, or you, for not being keen on that balcony! He does look quite Regal -so I'm going for George! Or maybe something Regal from his homeland?
I love what you wrote and Giraffe and hope you leave his name just that. lol It looks horrid there. Love your photo (sooo creative) and hope you can get out to take photos soon. Have not heard how long this is expected to last.
In honor of your new homeland, and because it rhymes with your zoological nomenclature, I think you should be called Falstaff. Your owner has positioned you nicely for this picture. Good luck with the balcony.
I found two African names- Twiga (Twee-gah) as Sally mentioned is the Swahili version and Thutiwa (Too-tee-wah) from the region of Azwana. I thought they would both be a nice reminder of his/her roots!
"Giraffe" may like to know he/she is not the only Giraffe who has come to live indoors in the Northern hemisphere. There is a giraffe living near me in the Allentown zoo who has his own house- built perfectly tall enough for his long neck!
Why hello, Twiga RAffiki -- I love that name! Some day I will post a photo of you and my favorite thing to photograph from your window - the Sears Tower.

Fun shot.
