Went canoeing with a friend on Barney's Lake early evening and ran into this perfectly situated turtle. It certainly knew how to choose its spot! Many thanks for the favs and comments on last night's fireworks shot!
@pamknowler Vickey, my fellow paddler, would know. I suspect that it is. The females have been laying their eggs the past 10 days, so we've been seeing them crossing roads to and from the lakes.
@pamknowler@taffy I think it's a Painted Turtle judging from the color under the shell and around the neck. Snappers are much duller and they have a more distinctly pointed nose. I haven't seen Snappers sun that much either. Fishermen hate them because they go after the fish in ponds and lakes more than lounging around on logs and rocks catching flies.
