The Metallurgy Brass Quintet performed at Whiskey Point on Beaver Island's harbor. To the left is the harbor and to the right is the lighthouse. It was a beautiful day and a perfect place and way to spend the afternoon. And the informality of the setting made photographing the event so much easier! The main challenge here was figuring out a vantage point to capture the feel of the event. The funniest part could not be captured -- as the ferry went by, with it's distinctive horn tooting, the tuba player did a quick imitation in response (in the middle of a song) that had everyone laughing.
Thanks as always for your response to yesterday's image of the solo pianist at play.

Wonderful setting for this community event. I'm struck by the similarity of this event to musical concerts on another small island in Washington. We visit Orcas Island several times a year and they too host world-class musicians every summer. Their chamber music festival is coming up next week.
Lovely to see the crowds gathered for the brass band entertaining on a Sunday afternoon. We have a bandstand in a meadow by the river here, and Summer Sunday afternoons a similar scene emerges. Relaxed, fun, family orientated and good humoured. Lovely that the players had a sense of humour.
