Our plants are showing progress with 2 ripe tomatoes ready we think within a day or two. With Jim heading to Chicago for a week, I'll have them to myself (she said selfishly). We think the yellow one is actually supposed to be a yellow tomato. The green ones will eventually ripen, we hope.
I can almost smell them Taffy! Such a distinctive smell! Nothing like home grown tomatoes! I always made chutney with the ones that stayed green. I haven’t grown them for years - my dad always gave me the small plants to grow on. I always ended up with so many tomatoes I had to give them away to friends. I didn’t have a big enough freezer to cook them and freeze the sauce. Lovely memories of my dad - I might have a go again next year!
Wow they look great .. My son grew some yellow and black ones last summer .. they started of black and then wen bright yellow with black around the calex... tasted good to .. I see some have dropped on the ground so it will be interesting to see if seedlings come up and are the same colour..
I love the little ones - so much flavour! Good for you for growing these. I have in the past but when mine are ripe - they are so cheap in the markets!
Oh wow, those two look ready to pick though the left-hand one might need a day or two on a sunny window-sill behind glass. We've learned to pick out tomatoes asap when red or the possum/s will beat us to them.
Home grown tomatoes are so much nicer than bought tomatoes. And these have made a nice collage too. You must enjoy being able to grow them when you're on the island. Maybe you could grow them in pots in Chicago - out on the balcony! :)
Beautiful collage and shots. Tomatoes are integral parts in our Summer dishes and we've been having summer tomatoes (not those grown in glass houses) for at least three months.
May I suggest you slice them on some good bread drizzled with EVO and a sprinkle of salt
