Tonight's sunset was one of those amazing ones where friends in the city were texting each other to be sure to look outside. There was a double rainbow across the city. Unfortunately, my only option was to shoot through the rain splattered window, then spend an hour processing to remove as many spots as I could. I had to give up on the second rainbow as I could fit it in.
Wonderful! I love the composition and tones. The black spot of the Sears tower with the two white antennas is just eye catching. Did you try shooting placing your lens against the glass? This usually makes any spot invisible
Loads of impact! The clarity of the foreground gives it emphasis, whilst the softness of the sky doesn't need sharp detail to stand out by its colour and warm hue.
@domenicododaro I got as close as I could to the window but it was raining really hard, so the window was covered in water droplets. Usually it works but this was a crazy heavy storm. I was just excited that I was able to get a shot of the full rainbow. I then remembered today I had the new superwide telephoto that I'd bought for our Patagonia trip which never happened. That would have been the better lens choice if I'd remembered it!
lord! that's beautiful! i wonder if it was not the same view from the balcony, perhaps the angle won't give the same perspective. but with the storm, i suppose you didn't want the camera to be getting wet, and i do remember your dislike of going out on the balcony. but if i have your vantage point, i'd be forever on the lookout for lightning hitting the top of the tower as that would make a really awesome shot. aces!
I was just thinking that you had a wider angled lens. Pity re the second rainbow and not being able to have a tad more of the buildings but the emotion, sense of magic, beauty...wow! Worth the effort to clone the drops!
it is a great composition with such a big part of the arc on show. And full of atmosphere too. Well done on persevering with the processing - excellent result.
