This works really well in black and white because of the high water- very dramatic! I guess we humans build and think Mother Nature is just going to follow our lead but we assume too much! Good shot!
@pamknowler We're fine. We're on the west side so while our beach is disappearing, we are on higher ground so the house and surrounds are likely to be okay. My heart goes out to those whose homes have really been affected. And the road at the south end has washed out!
@30pics4jackiesdiamond No, no lake tides at all. The rise is due to more rain, less evaporation, and other factors that I am sure I don't know! But basically the lake levels vary historically, and we are now at record highs after several years of record lows. It's crazy wild.
Oh my gosh, good to hear you're OK. Sad about the beach though, I hadn't even considered those lakes having such varying levels. Makes perfect sense, of course. Sorry to hear others have been adversely affected.
Very interesting article, Taffy. I didn't have any idea about the vast fluctuations of the water levels of the Great Lakes - or how much rain you had received this year. What an impact that has made all over your area from the homes to the wildlife. Your picture is terrific in b&w - really fits the dramatics of the situation.
Thanks for the link Taffy, very interesting and informative. We have plenty of sea-front places with these kinds of issues due to rising sea levels and adverse weather, but I was totally ignorant about the Great Lakes. Mother Nature is a law unto herself wherever you live.
Nice in B&W. Interesting article, too. I did not know the Great Lakes area had problems with erosion and high water levels. Sad to see the damage to homes and wildlife.
@taffy sadly the article is not available to the UK. I know they are very worried about sea levels rising due to climate change and the melting of the arctic ice cap but didn’t realise there were issues with the Great Lakes.
Glad you're OK Taffy but so sad for the people who are loosing land and homes. Couldn't read your article as it's temporarily unavailable in the UK. I guess it's global warming that's behind it.
This sounds very serious, especially since there’s no end in sight. Water is so powerful. Nothing survives that stands in it’s way. This is a great storytelling image!
