I'm still on the island but didn't feel like processing bugs or flowers, so went back to some photos from the past two months to play around with processing. I ended up liking this one. I've heard the Milky Way is visible so am trying to decide how late I'm willing to stay up to try to photograph it. Looking for something more inspiring than I have in hand...
Awesome capture and processing. Are you familiar with Stellarium, which is an app for locating the constellations and the Milky way. It gives you the time and position in the sky. I've been wanting to go out and try the Milky way, but it's just been too late and there's just not a good location close by down here. Oh well.
@rickster549 I'll check it out. Someone else just recommended it to me. I have a good location for it -- out the door and down to the beach, but the timing is relatively late especially for having an early morning tomorrow. But with a clear sky it feels I'm wasting an opportunity not to go down there!
This is gorgeous… seeing the Milky Way is worth getting up at any time of the night… but then again I have to travel to get to a place where I can see it.
Fantastic shot and processing! We just had a speaker at our photo club who talked about photographing the Milky Way- sort of as an aside from her scheduled topic. Kate Girabaldi recommended including something in the foreground, using a 10 second exposure, wide angle (f/2.8 with a zoom to 17mm- at least that's what my notes say!) lens, setting ISO to auto, and it's best to go during the new moon. The Milky Way usually rises between 9-10 pm right now (in PA). While the camera is in manual mode, use a flashlight to focus on something like a tree or a house and of course, use a tripod. My notes were a little sketchy but if you check out her website there may be some info on there because she does workshops and such. https://torvaterra.zenfolio.com
Great composition (and detail in the fireworks themselves) with the presence of the lit buildings in the distance - they seem to give the fireworks a greater presence. :)
@bella_ss I would love to come visit sometime!! When I went down to photograph, I realized my tripod was nowhere to be found. Emailed the airport (small town one where we leave our car when we fly over to the island) to see if they'd check our car and there it was, behind the passenger seat on the floor! Lonely and now reunited with me, just in time for 2 nights of clouds and rain. Next time, I'm going to be ready!
Lovely fireworks. And your capture and processing are splendid, as well. I've often seen those golden looking fireworks before, but not mixed with those white, blue and red ones, as pictured here.
We check out Stellarium when David does his stargazing.
I hope to give this a try myself at some point.
Beautiful fireworks pic.
