Our new photography class began yesterday, focused again on printing, but in this class choosing a set of thematically related photos and determining the most effective paper for printing. I ended up using Hahnemühle Photo Rag Metallic paper that gives it an intriguing sheen and texture but means having to adjust levels to be brighter than what looks right on the screen. This one ended up as one of my favorites -- taken in February but processed yesterday.
Wishing everyone a wonderful, healthy and happy new year!
Oh this is a wonderful X! I often struggle with printing my images, taking a course would be so beneficial and sounds interesting.
Thank you for your informative comments on my photos over the years, much appreciated!
Wishing you a healthy and happy 2023 Taffy!
@skipt07 At the school where I’m taking classes, they have a few different types. The ones I’ve been using are Eason photographic printers, I think maybe a 9000 series. Basically, I’ve learned that you download a specific driver for each type of paper, and when printing, you select the printer driver, then select the paper type. I’ve had three courses on printing now and feel more confident than I have in the past, but also know enough to know that I’ll never own one of those printers as they have to be used regularly and the ink is very expensive. When I take a course, I can use the lab as one of our ‘perks.’
@taffy - Thank you for answering, Taffy. My wife bought me a Canon 100 Pro a couple of years ago when I was more active in submitting photos for different photography shows. I found a man on YouTube named Jose Rodriguez. He has many videos on how-tos for Epson and Canon printers. I got tired of taking my photos to different places to have them print them for me and getting mediocre results. I found one young lady who put a lot into printing my prints at Staples but she left.
You are so right about the price of ink. I used to have an HP inkjet printer that you could buy dirt cheap (under a hundred dollars) but they got you when you buy their ink cartridges. You are very fortunate to live in a big city, in some ways, in that they have many more opportunities like the class that you are in. I used to belong o a camera club and the president of the club was very involved in photography. He was a very good photographer and he printed his own prints. He owned a high-end Epson that you bought the ink in bottles.

Your class sounds very interesting and something I would probably love.
The X really pops and would be striking in print.
