Deciding to go with Throwback Thursday because I spent a huge part of today cleaning out a hard drive from my first year on Project 365. In doing so, I came across some early not great attempts at HDR where I clearly did not know anything about processing. I took the original for this shot (note to self: stop being so arbitrary about deleting original images) and re-processed it, knowing what I know now. While not particularly emphasized, this uses selective color for the fountain, but I faded the color so that it would subtly shift to b&w at the furthest skyline. Looking back almost a year, I found several photos that, after playing around with them today, ended up much improved -- a testimony to 365 and how much participation teaches us!
PS -- This is Chicago, clearly not Beaver Island...
PPS -- We've been without internet since last night so I'm looking forward to viewing your postings tonight, now that it's back on. The unpredictability of island living.
This is a nice choice of SC, you certainly are correct in saying that participating teaches us so much. It also encourages us to try new things and get better at them.
Glad you got your power back on. You never realize how much you use it, until its gone. I always find myself flipping switches as I walk into the room, only to be reminded that it won't do a thing.
Cool image! I have only been on 365 for 4 months, but I have learned a TON! I am so excited to see the difference in another 8 and beyond!
I remember when you first started using HDR Taffy, I always enjoy seeing your city shots. We seem to be having similar issues with our internet connections and I agree about Island living only mine is a much larger island and we still have problems.
@eyesmile Thanks Gena! Internet came back about 8:00 tonight after going out sometime during the night last night. It was weird -- no storm, a beautiful day, a little rain during the night but we're north of all the bad stuff going on in the midwest. Internet was out on the whole island, but we all had power. So, there must have been a cut cable or something -- a few years ago, a ship somehow cut a cable and we were without communication lines til they fixed it. It's hard to imagine an actual cable wire floating around in Lake Michigan that we all are depending on remaining safe and workable!!
We've had some incredible storms yesterday and today. Lost internet/cable for a while yesterday. Today the weather threatened to take it out once again, but all we had was a very short blip. Glad to see yours is back and nice job on the redo!
Interesting processing here, Taffy. So true what you say about learning and growing on this site, regarding both taking the pictures and processing them. So sad that I rarely if ever have time to go back to old pics...
I would not have realised it was SC, it blends in nicely but the buildings in the background aren't attracting attention away from the fountain. I've also gone back to older shots and processed them differently, that's the beauty of shooting in Raw.
@ithinkithunk Thanks Kristen -- it started as an error when my hand kind of slipped, then I saw what it could do if I were systematic and careful to create a fading into b&w effect and was excited that it worked.
