NF-SOOC-September - Day 4: Summer Snowflakes

This is my fourth image for NF-SOOC-September. What's that all about? Well it's a challenge I've set myself - and hopefully some of my fellow 365ers will join me - to shoot only with a 50mm (or equivalent) lens in September and to post all images as they came out of the camera without any other processing or cropping. You can read about it here - http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/23475/back-to-basics-who-s-up-for-a-big-challenge-in-september

How about joining me?

This is just a hedgerow weed - I think it might be Hedgerow Parsley but I'm far from sure. What attracted me though was the little flowerlets that have almost a luminous quality about them and reminded me so much of the crystalline patterns of snowflakes.
Lovely composition and light. You are off to a smashing start for your NF-SOOC month.

They sure do - look like snowflakes - what a great thought and picture!

Quite a challenge Richard! This is so lovely! Interesting that a 50mm lens is chosen by so many, as 35mm would be closer to the equivalent 50mm 'standard' lens of days gone by.

@yrhenwr Thanks David - I suspect the reason that many people choose 50mm as a prime lens when they have an APS-C camera is that they don't understand the effect that the crop factor has on the focal length. Doin' my best to change that...

@yrhenwr what would that make my 14mm lens on a micro four thirds? Trying to decide on next lens choice...

Pretty shot. Interested to see how you progress through challenge.

Excellent shot

@newbank Micro 4/3rds is easy as the crop factor is 2 so 14mm is the equivalent of a 28mm on a full-frame camera, i.e. a medium wide angle.

Oh yes, great title Richard. They could well be snowflakes

A classic of the nf-SOOC genre, I'd say...

This is beautiful Richard. I love the way the white flowers "pop" and it sure does look like a snowflake.

You're really showing a talent for using your nf and keeping to your challenge. This has a strong feel to it, because of the shallow DoF.
September 5th, 2014
Beautiful capture. Strong contrast really shows up the snowflakes.

Lovely picture, they are a great representation of snowflakes in flowers. Interesting challenge. Katharine

Fabulous shot and great dof!

"Snowflake" was my first thought when seeing the tiny white blooms. They stand out very nicely against the dark greenery beneath them.

I like the DOF

Wonderful dof - and I am following your work now.
